Light blue '66 Squareback parked in London in movie "The Tamarind Seed" (1974).
Tan '66/'67 Notchback parked, "Der Fuehrerschein" (the driver's license) 1979. The German TV movie is about a younger family woman taking driving lessons as part of the very complicated and tedious German driver's license. Her instructor's car is the silver early (small bumper) VW Golf (Rabbit).

Movie "If every day were a Sunday" (1973; German title "Wenn jeder Tag ein Sonntag waere") filmed in southern Austria near the city of Klagenfurt.
Ivory Type 3 Ghia on street, seen from a first-generation Mustang convertible.
White late Squareback parked, behind the couple in the back of the Mustang. Looks like a rough Ghia Coupe behind it.
Dark green late Squareback Austrian Police car.
Same car though it looks blue here; I didn't get the "color correction" quite right-

VW Fastback premier at Frankfurt Auto Show, 1965. German TV "newsreel" showing the premier of the Fastback which started as model year 1966. The IAA (German for international auto show) traditionally takes place in September. Host interviewed VW's head of Sales as well as head of Technical Service. Courtyard sequence shows how the Fasty can park in small spaces, has a fine 2-toned Squareback, and a base Notchback.
White Fastback showing its handling stability by gently swerving on an empty highway.
Program is named "VW 1600 TL Fliessheck bei der IAA 1965". https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cM9q5vfk-Xw |

"A Woman Under the Influence" (1974), starring Gena Rowlands seen here.
"Machine Gun McCain" (1970)- Red early Squareback parked; main character John Cassavetes in foreground.
Red late '60's (maybe a '66 due to wide side trim?) Squareback at ARAL gas station, German movie "Die lustigen 4 von der Tankstelle" (The 4 funny ones from the gas station) 1972, filmed in Austria. Pretty gal at left is popular German actress Uschi Glas. |

Blue '67 Squareback, "Heat of Anger" (1972) filmed in Los Angeles, California.
Amazing coincidence that with the 2 Beetles, we have a red, white & blue color scheme.
"Whisperer" (1967), filmed in Manchester, England.
Beige '67 (?- no headrests, seemingly thin side trim, but no reverse lights) Squareback, with a bonus '70/'71 Ghia Cabrio: "All the President's Men" (1976) with main character Bob Woodward (Robert Redford) in foreground. Filmed in Washington, DC.

Red early Squareback, YouTube video "LA 1960s 405 & Sepulveda Part 2". Sepulveda Blvd runs north-south in Southern California, and at this section is parallel to/west of the 405 freeway north of Santa Monica just south of the Sepulveda Pass tunnel. It's noteworthy because all traffic is heading southbound and using the northbound lanes. This shot happens to also be found in the movie "Sex and the Single Girl" (1964).
YouTube "driving" video "Hollywood 1970-1976":
Dark-colored pre-'70 Fastback (Deep Sea Green?) driving past in foreground.
Early Fastback and later Squareback, parked at gas station. |

Adam 12, Season 4, Episode 17 The Parole Violator. At 15:43 there is a parking lot shot with 13 VWs, one is a squareback.

Saw one or two in a shot from All the President's Men. There was a parking lot shot from afar and you can see a few 3's and a beetle or two.
Alos, in Purple Rain movie Prince is headed home to have it out with his father and there is an orange one on the street. |

The War between Men and Women, 1972. Filmed in New York City, starring Jack Lemmon. Lemmon (Peter Wilson) has terrible eyesight and loses his glasses. A beige late '60's Squareback passes by on the street, giving him a multiple distorted image.
White late '60's Squareback parked in background.
Cobalt Blue (?) '70 Squareback parked. Taxi is about to drop off Lemmon.
Same Squareback. Cabbie is actor F. Murray Abraham. |

Brian, here's one from episode ""The Deep Blue Sleep", 1975 season 2 episode 5. The light blue Squareback is first seen from Rockford's vantage point parked across the street from the guy he's following. You can see the headrests, making it a '68/'69.
Then you see his view through binoculars. Guest star Robert Webber is walking from his gold Lincoln Continental.

Light blue '70+ Squareback on New York City avenue, movie "Scarface" (1983). The heavily-cursing main character Tony Montana (Al Pacino) is driving the Ford station wagon which is following the white Citroen DS21 at left.
Movie "Truck Turner" (1974) starring Isaac Hayes; filmed in Los Angeles, California.

Shantung Yellow '71 Squareback parked, bicycling movie "Breaking Away" (1979).
Blue ('66?) Squareback/Variant driving by in background, movie "If its Tuesday it must be Belgium" (1969). Actor Murray Hamilton on left (probably best known as Mr. Robinson in "The Graduate" (1967)), and Susanne Pleshette on right.
Type 3 Ghia parked, same movie. |

Red Notchbacks in a "stock car" race in the really lousy German movie "Return of Superbug" (1979). Main "character", the yellow ~ '68 Beetle named DuDu (German license plate letters DU for the city of Duisburg) is chased by antagonists in a black Cadillac and stumbles into a "stock car" dirt track race.

German movie "Der Tote bin ich" (I am the dead one), 1979. "K" license plate city code is Koeln (Cologne).
British miniseries "Smiley's People" (1982) were 6 episodes starring Sir Alec Guinness as former/retired spymaster George Smiley. I was tipped off to a Fridolin (Type 147) by "&Dan" from 2010 and just now skimmed through 5 of the 6 episodes to catch some VWs including this Notchback. Filmed in Thun (south of Bern) Switzerland.
German movie "Zur Sache, Schaetzchen" (get to it, my dear) 1968.
Ivory/green German police ("Polizei") late 1960's Notchback, movie "The Reader" (2008). This scene is set in 1966. Appears as though there are no reverse lights, making it as late as a '66. |
