Visited a friend in the hospital over the weekend, TV was on, but the sound was down, and my back was to it.
My friend says "Look!", pointing to the TV.
I turn just in time to see a green (I think) late Notchback fly off the road and roll down a hillside.
Don't know the name of the movie, but Charles Bronson was in it. _________________ Everything known to man has been written.

Those of you that are watching the current 2017 World Series – have you seen the squareback in the Chevy Truck commercials?
At least once a night during the telecast, they play a Chevy Truck commercial which consists of series of a few second clips of Chevy Truck commercials from the past. In the very first short clip they show an actor facing the camera while sitting down (like in Anytown, USA). Behind him there is traffic going by. Low and behold there is an orange (or maybe red) squareback coming into and out of the shot. Pretty cool! I have to laugh because todays commercials are so well scripted with attention to every detail, but obviously not so back in the 70’s as Chevrolet let a VW appear in one of their commercials!
Let alone they let a VW appear in a commercial in the 70's; they actually let it appear again in 2017! _________________ 1972 SquareBack.....recycled back to life......

About two hours into the movie "Hidden Figures". The movie takes place in 1961... its either a 68/69 notch or an early notch with later hood trim.

The more I look at it, the more that damage looks photo-shopped. _________________ "Just $99 down and $64 a month for 36 months buys you a brand new Volkswagen Beetle!"

I dunno, the few times I've seen tempered, non-laminated glass break, it shatters completely into pea-gravel sized bits, and there is very little left in the frame. I believe only the windshields are laminated; the rest are tempered. |

The glass damage looks real to me but not the body damage. In my experience tempered glass that's supported all of the way around (fixed windows) will tend to stay together and I've had to knock it out of the way in the past (And cut my hands! ). Unsupported glass like the windows that roll up and down usually fall apart more readily. Just like in the picture. It wasn't my job but I've spent a lot of time in salvage yards.
And somebody shot a window out of one of the cars sitting in my driveway. _________________ "Just $99 down and $64 a month for 36 months buys you a brand new Volkswagen Beetle!"

Old episode of Hawaii Five-0 (#38, "Blind Tiger", Original air date: 12/31/69). A bomber is out for McGarrett, and the lab is analyzing bomb fragments. They discover it was made from tubular steel taken from the "Westphalian Oberlin Car" (presumably a euphemism for Volkswagen). They go to this dealer, and not only is it clearly a VW service department, there is a Fastback being worked on a short lift as they come in. That's one.
Then on the way to capturing the bomber, they race in, next to a Squareback (that's two!).
Notice the prominent "Automatic" decal on the back window, clearly an advertisement for what was the first VW model with an automatic transmission.

I bet it's the stock off-white color. Old TV shows often have a color cast, and screenshots using a phone cam can also have a poor white balance.

I sold this yellow squareback a while back to a guy working on the Bad Samaritan movie. He told me they were going to destroy it
Tried to get a screen shot of it here. If you watch the trailer you can see it much clearer. That was a pretty nice car too
