Think I'll be opting for the welding instead of bonding. Quicker than it plus is less of a process, after talking to someone here at work. :?
Anyway, here's yesterday's "work"...
Still have to do that ^^^^ seam at the bottom of the bulkhead. Ran out of welding gas though.
Will be doing some cleanup/prep work today and drive it tomorrow so I can stop at the welder's supply and pick up a fresh filled gas bottle! |

Next installment...
The main beam where all 4 flats meet, was so totally rusted away that it needed replacing. After a bit of "brain storming" it was decided to use square tubing. Using the amazing plasma cutter the job went down with a quickness!
Next was trial fitness of the funky green bed flats...
The gaps were uneven. One too big and the other none at all. I wanted at least a bit of gap on both...
At this point it was decided to get the area which has no access at all cleaned up prior to covering it off again. It was already starting to rust, specially under the gas tank! After cleaning I overcoated it all with rubberized "undercoating" spray!
Finally, the next 2 days were spent drilling and welding and drilling and welding....
Some thousand or so forkin weld spots later the Plump Truck gots a new bed!!!! \:D/

I'm sure you ain't jealous of all the forkin work it took!
Not to mention what is still left to do... grinding, crimping the edge, etc. :(
Don't get me wrong, I am extremely happy to have a bed now, but it sure kicked my ass! :x |

Took yesterday off "work" so I could put some real work into the truck. The engine in the Bug is in bad need of an overhaul so I want to get the Plump Truck back on the road. Anyway, here's some pix of the progress:
Made a "crimping tool" out of this! Grounded off the sharp edges and it worked well!
Seam-welded the groove across and used "seam seal" on the long one as well as the "opening" where the bed meets the forward bulkhead.
Next is the Herculiner on the bed, reinstall the gates and start daily driving it! \:D/ |

DONE!!! Next is to drive it!
Here's the "fixed" roller to cover the low grooves:
And the rest is history!!!
Actually "next" is rebuilding the Bug's engine.

I'd say it was tough, this thread is 7 years old! It documents the disappearance of ratwell, for goodness sakes. Good job though seriously man. My dream is to have a bay double cab. Someday maybe. |

I thought I had posted about these carbs before but can't seem to find it now!?! :-k
Anyway, after some trial and error got the dual progressive Webers working on teh Plump Truck. Though they worked okay the performance left much to be desired and the milage was not much different than with the Dellortos. So, I passed them on to Turbo's Hatchnitz and installed a single 30PICT2 for "economy". What a mistake!
Performance, well, there wasn't any! On top of that, the milage was still the fukken same. So, if it will still have lousy milage, might as well have some performance to go with it! The Dellortos are back in service and are performing as they should! :P |

Did a "slamma jamma" on the Plump Truck...
Even scrapped the muffler on the "curb-mascarading-as-a-driveway"! :x
Did it the hard way!
That's a yard of gravel! Using it for scaping the land in the back yard. |

I am upgrading the front drum brakes with '72 disc ones. Apparently the Plump Truck is such an "early" vintage that it had split bus drums. :-k
I'm guessing this because the dust caps did not fit the disc hubs by quite a lot!!! Went to the vee parts to get some and they did not have any but told me that the book says '68 to '79 are all the same. So I went back and try to pound them in but upon measuring the difference was quite big. Was going to just make my own but didn't have the raw material readily enough, so decided to "cut" into the caps I had. Couldn't use them anyway so if I ended up ruining them, no big loss. :?
Through my calculations I ended up with about 0.026" worth of skin actually grabbing the hub. :|

Yeah, that's what I do when something needs an adjustment, just whip out the ol' metal lathe and fix it. Nice work! |

The never ending brake issues!
The old master cylinder had worn out a seal and was leaking right out of the front of it. Tried to get a rebuilt kit but none are available. A "so called" german master is upwards of a coupla hunnert $$$ or some such, so I attempted a "fix". Took it apart and found a bit of pitting inside it right about the front seal area. Took a honer to it and smoothed it out. Also swapped the worn seal with another from the inner area though they are not "exactly" the same. Slapped it all back together and it seemed to work. However, after all that manhandling, the cracked up reservoir started leaking.
After a while, couldn't stand the mess and not feeling all too secure, I bit the bullet and ordered a new master. Pierside Parts had one at $89 (china cheesy) but about the reservoir they said "No one is making those... but we are working on getting it to the market soon!" Well, really? Ok, but EIS.com does have it already for $30 or so. Ordered them in the hope that both parts would fit each other while coming from 2 different sources!?!!?!! [-o<
Got lucky this time!!!! \:D/
The reservoir came in first:
Then the master showed up:
Here's the comp:
And the "issue":

The story goes... out of the nowhere, while picking up a couple of items at the HomDeplo, I looked at the spray paints and found some cheapassed rattle cans for just $0.97 each in gloss white. So the thought came right there and then that this could be a "quick" make over for the Plump Truck!!!
Brought home 12 cans and began taping up the truck. Within the day (this past weekend) I got it all "white", very very "WHITE"!!!! :-s
So then, with so much whiteness, decided to contrast it with black, on the bumpers, trim, belt line, etc. Been at it from the weekend all the way to last night when I finally finished the front bumper, which I removed the tired and extremely ugly looking bumper guards. If I may say so myself, I think it looks as best as it ever has!!!
