They are just a reflector, thats probably the flash youre seeing.

Sorry to hear about your fatchick starter switch, best of luck getting that figured out.

my word, but I certainly do dislike that term fatchick, so derogatory....
[b]Bay window bus[b] is so much more respectful.
Or better yet, TYPE 2.

Is that rear sidemarker just a reflector or does it have a bulb inside?

It is a reflector and looks bright because of the camara flash.

Fatchick is a term of endearment. Get over it!

BTW, I got signals now. Still got to figure out a way to work the flashers though. 8)

Pyro,

Welcome to the fatness. I used to have a '68. I have about 2 or 3 black boxes. PM me and we'll cut a deal.

Oh, we're over it Ivan. When you get over it, let us know.

I was lucky to find a pair of treasure chest locks for my 68 SC from a fellow parting out his vehicle last year. It seems most of the single cabs out there have just holes where the mechanism used to go. I guess they malfunctioned and people removed them or sold them when money was tight. It does seem odd that so many people need them. I see a single one for sale every now and then but rarely a pair. By the way Fatchick doesn't offend me, since my wife is skinny!

Nice!

I wonder if you could get away with a "Cleat" Like you'd use on a boat:

One on the hatch, one on the body.

Ties down like this:

I think it would look pretty slick, especially if it was a polished stainess and placed so it looks like it belongs!

No, you can't. Tried it. I was dumb

>>I replaced my turn signal flasher with one right off the shelf at the nearest VW shop for fifteen bucks. Those three prong flashers are easy to get. It's a hell of a lot less expensive and time consuming than tracking down euro taillight housings and hacking the wiring for an HD12 flasher.

Except that he needs a 9 prong, not a 3 prong.

Multiple options for replacing the 9 prong relay:

I got a '68 truck now and if you didn't do the shindig at Andy's house the day before the Yuma show, then you missed the "ceremony" of my induction into fatchickdom.

Anyway, this fatchick needs a lot of work. I've got it almost road worthy except for the turn signals. It is totally missing the perenial emergency flasher unit, the one where all the wires go from the turn signal switch. I've called a couple of places and they don't even list it!?! :(

I used the "search" button and got 635 hits including some "relay" race of some sort. So, do I HAVE TO get the correct relay or can I modify some contraption, or replace the turn signal switch with a later than '68 one which doesn't require such a relay box??? :?

I really need to get this truck running "legal" as far as the lights is concerned.
Those trucks are a silly joke. Good luck trying to make it legal. May be you are a silly yoke!

pyrOman Thu Dec 15, 2005 8:58 am

So is there anyone here that actually HAS the latching mechanism on the treasure chest doors of a '68 truck??? :?

I will make something up that will work while I find the correct ones. However, it would be great if I at least have a clue as to what the correct ones look like!

wileysc71 Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:02 am

I have one. I'll see if I can't take a picture this weekend and post.
The only thing I DO NOT have the "cover".

Did you ever call Gab's Keys?

wileysc71 wrote: Did you ever call Gab's Keys?

No. Been way to busy getting the damn thing road ready, but will do!

Here's a couple of pix I just took. I've been told that there are different mechanisms going for the same truck. Early or late, whatever!?! I just want to get something other than a forkin bungee cord. :x

Here's the striker plate which is identical to the one for the back hatch on my '65 Dormy.

Here's the door where the missing (mistery) mechanism goes.

wileysc71 Thu Dec 15, 2005 9:39 am

They left you 2 of the 4 bolts. Ain't that sweet. Pisses you off, huh?

That all looks like mine. And yes, they are different part numbers for early and late. I think (emphasis on think) that '68-'70 were the same. That's a guess based on Gab had one listed for a '71 that was the wrong part #. When I got mine, I had the lock - the big SQUARE box (I think the later ones aren't exactly square) without the lock cylinder. So I had a part# to go on at least.

That # is 261829561B

Gab had one last time I talked to him. Not cheap though at $125.

FWIW, until I found one, I was going to fabricate a bug locking deck lid into the door and welding in the correct plate for the bug on the truck side. Just a thought.
