Wondering if anybody has done this on their 2WD Vanagon. I've been reading lots of post using the stock bushings that come with the Addco 719 bar,and alot of post talking about how awesome the Powerflex bushings are. So has anybody married these two and how's it working? I also read somewhere that Addco says don't use Powerflex with their bars... Any updates. Also you'd thing Addco would've added a grease nipple by now... [/u] |

Reviving this again!
So, what are the consensus on the rear sway-bars?
WhiteLine or ADDCO? |

Christopher's (T3 Technique) rear anti-sway bars should be available soon [-o< |

i've been trying to get the #488 to fit a customers van today, it's crap
both myself and my customer wish he had not bought the kit
i have contacted addco on the matter, we'll see what they have to say. |

Can you be more specific.
"Crap" doesn't really help us help you.
I like the bar fine.. What's pissing you off about the setup? |

with the front brackets all bolted to the chassis, the rear end where it should meet the sway bar ends up like this
i could correct it, by tipping over the brackets
making new front brackets and moving the whole thing forward
would put the bracket in a better orientation
the bracket will still need trimming to make it 100% |

I mounted a white line rear bar that I found used on CL. It's like night and day. The sway factor on my 2wd van is greatly reduced, it corners like a sports car... well, almost. I would not want to put one on a syncro if it sees any off road use because I would want the articulation between the rear wheels.

measuring the overall width of the bar, them from each end to the center, the bar is not the same shape on each end, doesn't smack of a quality product |

Mine was bent a little on a mechanics hoist after install... but it still works.
Possibly your was bent in shipping? or just a bad bar.
Maybe a return is on order.
Will post a pic of the L bracket mount location I used on my install.. in the morning. |

Is the vehicle resting on its wheels in this shot?.. or is it on jack stands? (shown in an earlier shot)
Make sure that when locating the L bracket it is done with vehicle's wheel on the ground and suspension is at static rest on as flat a surface as possible. |

the packaging on the sway bar was all spot on, no marks or scratches

Bummer.
If the bar is well out of symmetric.. I'd ask for a replacement.
Back to the mounting issue.
First shot.
I spaced the forward L-bracket with some stainless backer washers I had laying around from sailboat projects.. This bought a few mms of forward spacing and gave me a little better structure to torque down on around that cross member, (which is not really thick gauge).
Second shot.
Rear L-bracket placement. It was not easy drilling a hole into these Burley 16s. I had to sleep on it.
This was setup with the van on the ground and suspension at rest.
I ground the L-bracket upper edge down to fit the rounded shape of the OEM welded seam in the swing arm. It took me an hr to get it just right.. but the fit is tight and I don't need to worry as much about the bolt doing all the holding.. If you look closely you can see the "new" rounded shape of the bracket edge at the seam.
At some point, I want to remove this and check to see of any ovaling has occurred in the wall of the swing arm.. I am not too concerned. The thin bolt and bushings allow for a reasonable amount of flex.
Third shot.
Direct on.. The bracket lands just at the corner of the lip and opening to the CV.
I think the 4th bushing could be removed form this arrangement.. with the bar mounting between bushing 2 and 3 (counting from the top.
And that buys another 1/2" of clearance in that area.
Hope this helps. |

Poor quality :!:
Give Christopher a shout and remind him about producing a rear bar and that you will pay anything to have one fit properly.
His front bars are many many times the quality shown in this thread.
FYI if your bar is bent or asymmetrical, that is having an effect on your suspension.
This effect is not a good one. |

Resurrecting this thread again.
Have recently jumped down the Anti-Sway/Anti-roll bar rabbit hole.
Tired of having to abide the posted speeds *or else* when getting on onramps and offramps here in Socal. (Will be upgrading to Billsteins too. . .)
I've checked aircooled.net and it looks like that they've got the rear whiteline sway bars, but not the front. Gowesty is usually my first stop, but wasn't able to find anything when searching "roll" or "sway."
Anyone have any luck sourcing the whiteline sway bars - front and rear - for a LH Drive vanagon in the past 12 months? Not feeling the addco. Too many fitment issues, and not interested in poking any new holes in my Carat. |

Whiteline no longer produces those bars, but there is a source for a very nice front bar - http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=614802&highlight=finally
The matching rear bar should be coming along fairly soon. |

Hey Chris, will your rear bar be universal or model specific? I see that the other makers offer rear models for '80-'85 and '86-'91. What are their mounting differences and will you mount yours in the same manner?

We love sway bars! We wish Chris would get the rear bars done! I put a used Whiteline rear bar on my work van. It was like night and day. Corner sway was greatly reduced. I found it easy to install even without instructions. I don't know anything about the adco bars. Chris has a reputation for quality accessories and suspension parts so many here are waiting for him to complete the design/release of his new vanagon rear bar to go along with his front bar.
