I bought the Riviera 2 weeks ago, not only does it have intermid. wipers but also cruise control. i have all the oringinal paper work it was done by A.S.I in sacramento, then sold in san jose,ca. $ 11,000.05 at Bob lewis V.W. pic in the gallery... i paid 500, of course it had sat awhile and some decided to open the ecm, and fix it. had type 1 spark plugs and a 3 psi pump on it. now i have it running. and started cleaning it up, and yes the stripes will go bye-bye.

I like the factory option arm and leg that come out of the engine compartment. M-code 987?

Am I too late to join the party? I just found y'all. I have a '78 Westy Champagne Edition II, too.

My last 6 are 082446
Built 01/78 Completed 02/78

Thanks. So far, it seems the build range was from 2/78 to 3/78. But I need more input.......

MamaMia Sun Jun 11, 2006 5:06 pm

Mine says the "incomplete build" was done 1/78, but the final build was completed 2/78.

A.S.I. in Sacramento? As far as I know all of the Rivi's were converted in Vancouver, Washington by A.S.I. through contract for the owner of Riviera Motors in Beaverton, Oregon. Hence the name Riviera camper. I know that Knute Qvale, the owner of Riviera Motors did ship them to various dealers up and down the west coast. Maybe that's how it ended up being sold in San Jose.

I've also got a Champagne westy!
YellowSplittie, what color white did you use on the top half? I'm redoing mine, got the slidind door done, my paint looks a little more off-white than that (maybe because it's a pic over the internet) but the brown looks just like mine. Love that color combo. Was there ever a dealer badging that signified that it was a special edition? And do any of you have any brocures or anything on it?

The white in the picture above is not the correct color. That picture was taken shortly after I purchased the camper. Someone had painted the camper long before I got it and used a bright white that really didn't look right.

Since the picture was taken, I've had the camper totally repainted. We at first used the Pastel White paint code to mix the upper color, but it was much too "yellow" when we sprayed it. We then took the vent cover off under the dash and took it into the paint store and had them scan it. It ended up being a perfect match.

Pictures after the paint was applied:

Thanks YellowSplittie, and Karl. My paint looks a little tannish too when the light hits it directly but inside it's more white. Both white and brown were kinda like that depending on what light you were in. Lookin' good thou YS, I wish mine wasn't a daily, I'd take it down and do the whole thing at once like that.

I had not intended on removing the interior, but my painter was a dumbass (putting it kindly) and sandblasted into the interior when he was cleaning up the window openings, stripping the paint off around the inside of the window openings and rear hatch. I had to gut the interior so he could fix his error.

If I lived closer I'd probably snag it up  . I repainted mine blue also for the time being till I can get All the body panels together and get them on. Don't want it rusting out anymore than it already is. :x

Here is mine:

Here is a pic. of the new seat I just put in. They're sweet! 8)

I'm probably going to paint the bottom this color

And the top pearl white. The red color is growing on me but I don't like the brown. The bumpers are white cause the original front one was MIA and the back one was there but shot.

The interior is cleaned out now  . I haven't got any new pics yet of it

Geno :D
