I was directed to this thread as I have been talking with some old club members I had. I wentto my first VW Show in 86, at Baylands Raceway in Fremont, CA. Saw Team Mac Attack, and was a little interested. Then I saw Hot VW's Magazine. The very issue has been posted with The Sewfine bug, and the scallopped bug. I was addicted with the help of a family friend, the owner of Thin Bug, the red one with Peterbilt mud flaps. I am sure many remember it from Nor Cal, and it was in Hot VW's int he 80's.
I have a ton of 35mm pics in storage of Bug-O-Rama's, VW's By the Bay Bug Bashes, flier's for my old club, I just cannot wait to move, and then get them scanned in. I had no idea people looked for them! I just went through all 56 pages, and I remember many of them.
Well, here are my 2 old VW's I had, I will post show pics when I get then out of storage. I hope this is ok.
My first car,a 71 super, was my 1st car, circa 1993. Rockin the Zolotojne textured paint for the interior, roof rack, mirrors, and wipers. Oh yeah, not just a wink mirror, but the louvered one too. I have been told it was sold a couple times after me and then split into 3 pieces in a bad wreck. RIP, ol 7VW1.
Here is Pea Soup, my 1977 Adventurewagen with an automatic transmission, 90% original, including the paint. Bought with 40K original miles, sold at 76K,. Won a VW show,3rds ad a couple Bug-O-Ramas, and took a 2nd at 94's Bug Bash weeks before I sold it. It was resold again a couple years ago, location unknown, but I still miss that one too.
Sorry for the ramble. Seeing this is reviving my addiction, with the Pasco Bug Jam just a few weeks away... |

Ah yes...the Thin Bug.
Here are few pics of my Ghia behind the Thin Bug during the 7th Annual California Caravan May 1988. I drove down to Harris Ranch to hook up with the cruise up to Sacramento:

Wow, great pics! He also made a limo bug for when he got married, I helped work on it. I have pics of that, too. I might just have to go find them, I really want to post them up! |

Wow. I just went through all 57 pages. It looks like Skim, Kyle and I went to a lot of the same shows from 89-93. This is my square after I sold it to Keri Vierra in 92 and she painted it salmon. It was painted Challenger Sublime before. I will dig up some pics and get them scanned over the holiday weekend. Great thread. My square is the one in the back. She cut the rag in too. It was an OG L87 Pigalle car from Canada when I got it.

Hell yeah we were right in the midst of it. To me this was the height of the California Vdub scene. Was your sqbk the one that had the chrome MOMO rims on it? |
