Did the wreck do any damage to the engine? I thought I saw the exhaust all twisted up.

Here is one I snapped on the way out.

it mangled the exhaust
broke the msd dist
broke off 1 manifold cracked the other
broke some of the carb linkage brackets
smashed a velocity stack
and the header dented a couple push rod tubes
no other obvious damage. i think this damage was from the body hitting other parts. most of the impact was higher in the body (just above the carb) the car started to go over by the time it hit the wall

I have a boatload of drag pics from Bug-In 30 and 31 at Orange County Raceway. I will dig up if anyone is interested or looking for their old ride or just memories. I will get them out tonight, and hopefully scan them in for posting.

My Old Man's first Drag Bug, it got all the Ho's.

It Hauled Ass too, I love how it's dragging the sump along.

The Growler came later, it was full interior and all that, Pops used to use it as his daily driver before it became a Race Car.

Old Mag article from the 70's.

Then there was a dragster, it had potato mags on the back, Skims favorite.

Nice.

It was a 1000 hp rocket/turbine powered transaxle.

Turbonique was the company, some info here:

More info here, with details on the Black Widow bug about halfway down the page:

In a thread full of cool shit this really stands out. I followed the posted references and I must say I'm surprised no one is playing with this today. The self powered supercharger for instance seems to have huge potential. The designs are extremely simple and well with in the ability of a good backyard shop operation.

Very cool post.

Those things(the axle mounted turbines) ran on what is basically rocket fuel. It was called thermoline. Horribly unstable and had a bad habit of blowing crap up. I would think that it is doublful that you could get one of those bombs through tech now adays.
