Testify. My Cummins 444 recently overhauled by Diesel Injection of Pittsburgh dyno'ed 515whp. Estimated 700 flywheel horsepower. This on an engine with a verified 2 million miles. They use 15-40 Delo because it's Cummins' favorite.
When I had the opportunity to consult with an engineer at Cummins Corporate in Indiana, he told me it doesn't matter which commercially available oil you're using, as long as it's in the proper viscosity rating and is changed frequently. Basically oil breakdown doesn't cause parts failures, and additives in oil won't make it live longer. Keeping the oil as clean as possible is the key to engine longenity. That's why over-the-road diesels carry much higher oil capacity per cubic inch of displacement(my engine carries 10 gallons in the pan) and more filtration (Mine filters 2 gallons at a time). |

very true I tell all my cust. lack of maintenance is the reason for most failures this engine had never been rebuild, Cummins N-14 can't remember if it was a plus or a select |
