The part that goes from the stainless housing to the part that bolts to the door has pitting as well. I would have to get the glass out to pull it apart. I will get it all together and revisit some items that need rechroming. unless someone out there is willing to let go a really nice cat eye and i can send them this one and something else to make it worth there while. I dout that will happen since they rarely come up for sale. It took me many years (of casual looking) to find mine. |

That's what I was saying, it's the same as a regular early mirror, maybe I wasnt clear enough. I'll find some pics. I was pissed when mine was broken, but much relieved that I could scavenge parts off a regular mirror |

Oh ok I think I get what your saying. But either way I have to get the glass out. I am afraid of breaking it trying to get it out. |

yes. that was the easy part for me. I then had to soak the nut, washers and whatever else was in there in 3 in 1 oil
for removing it, I heated up the back side on a stove (mine's electric smooth glass top) that softened up the adhesive rubber gasket thing. I then used a filed down plastic bike tire lever to get it out without messing up the housing. I think a super strong guitar pick or the tool kit pics for repairing iPhone glass would work better.
on the flip side, I used industrial double sided tape to hold the glass in after repair. Again, heated up the aluminum to make it expand to drop the glass in
I tried to find the post but couldnt, so it might have been on facebook. Notchboy walked me through the repair. it was easy, I just drank a few first to calm the nerves. If you break the glass, you can get a mirror cut pretty cheap |

Your dash looks cool with the rings on the gauges. Nice touch! |

Thanks was on the fence about the orange rings but it is any early car with late model gauges so wanted to break it up a bit.
Stupid pop outs kicked my butt today. Trying to get the screws out to pit all new seals in.
Getting there. Not fast enough though. Really wanted to make it to classic but its not looking good. |

I always tap the screw driver with a hammer a couple times. Seems to free them up.
It's looking good! |

they are one of the worst parts on any vw. I hate them. Practice does not make it easier either.
here's some pics (Raffle bug from my club, $30 a ticket, 2 veteran related charities, shameless plug http://www.dlkdubsplash.com/libertybug-raffle/ )

Do you have a Blue Bentley? If so, section A-16 pages 8 thru 19 cover doing the wing windows.
Yes, they are a royal PIA to install, but you can do it. The first 1 is always harder than the second one, mainly because you have figured out how it has to go back in. I've found that you really need to actually have the wing window base leg start dropping in right at the edge of the scraper seal, keeping the complete wing window in the center of the grooves, and just tipping it in place. I know this sounds easier than it actually is, but that's what it needs to do. I also do this while I still have most of the door gutted (only the inner and outer scrapers are installed). Sometimes I'll move the last inch of the 2 rubbers out, so I can slip the assembly in place. |

Thanks man. Thats why I didnt start a build thread since there was a lot of talk on this car to begin with.
I did get 1 vent wing window seal in yesterday. Hopefully the second goes smoother. |
