Ive got a 71 1600cc DP. I had it running for about 20 minutes too.
Now.. I have purchased new replacement cylinders and pistons, however when I started looking at the crank...its not good.
One of the rods (4)has quite a bit of back and forth play, the inserts are obviously shot on that one, but I dont know if there is any crank damage.
(3) has about a .020 gap between the rod and the crank throw.
I also noticed there is about 1/4 inch of endplay on this motor.
I have it broken down to a short block, and using it as a core I can get another locally for 550.
I could split the case I suppose and rebuild it myself. But I kinda want to get it running before it gets too cold.
The real question here is. How much runtime could I expect if I just replace the inserts..throw the rods back in it and run it. Also what kind of damage might I be setting myself up for if I were to do this. Afterall, it is just a sandrail...
Opinions...suggestions...aprreiciated... |

| I would check out the end play first and see how many shim are in their also looked in my engine book by Tom Wilson it says side clearance should be .004-.016 with a .027 in wear limit so you may be fine on your side clearance as for a short block for 550 even for a stocker it's probably junk |
