Okay, I happen to really like pinstriping on bays. So shows us some pictures of your (or someone else's) pinstriped buses. Any advice on applying pinstriping would be welcomed as well. Extra points if you can find a picture that combines all of the photo threads for a pinstriped, snow-covered bus in the wilderness!

I'll start off with one from the classifieds:

Ive always loved good 70's style pinstriping, and some 80's flavors as well.

if we could only get a kit that did some of these designs, we'd be set.

Oh boy! Whoo hoo! I get to share my pinstriping pics again!

It was done by the PO, so I don't have any stories about applying the stripes.

Do I qualify as 'pin'stripes? More like marker strips.

not the best picture.

Come on guys, anything that is some kind of vinyl or otherwise sticker (IMHO) is NOT pinstriping. This is pin striping:

I have been playing around with it for a bit (none of this is my work.) I've been trying to come up with some designs that might work for my bus... When spring comes there will be some 1shot on there somewhere for sure.

Here are my pin stripes before the paint job.
I plan to try and find close to original pin strippimg to
match what was on before!

kookrod Tue Dec 05, 2006 8:01 pm

Not pinstripes but flames! the flames are pinstriped along the edges though. 8)

most of the graphics you see on the buses in the previous posts are really "accent stripes" and were vinyl kits applied at point of sale by the dealerships to jazz up the otherwise dull sides of the VW bus. a proper pinstripe job is painted on by hand freestyle. :D

Best pict I could find off hand! I have NO idea how old these are but I didn't notice them for two months until after I bought it!

If you look REAL hard its there right above the blue and right below the rusty windshield!

**Twitch Twitch**
My headlights look like crap! Good thing I scraped the paint off!

78 Champagne i used to own ..
Does anybody have rear pics of the brown westy with the thick graphics
earlier in this thread ?looks cool 8)

kookrod Wed Dec 06, 2006 7:12 pm

Here is another pic of my old '79 camper. This was taken back in 1994. you can see the graphics on the side some what. All the other pics I have if this bus were taken on camping trips. So either i had the tent set up on it or the side door was open and you cant see the stripes too well.

Me and my old pal.

Hey all, I'm not a bus guy so forgive me if these are old questions. Were these cool pinstriping features (I prefer the thicker double and triple ones especially) only available on champagne editions or alot of what's seen here aftermarket decals? Which one's were stock to VW and what years did they come in? Thanks!

First - Very nice work. I like it.

But - I would call that graphics, not pinstriping... am I wrong?

They are all aftermarket. Did the CE come with striping? If so, it was the only one I know of from VW and was only '78 and '79. Early bays had metal trim. Landmark camper conversions came with stripes, but aren't a VW product.
