I was wantin to put a twin turbo engine in my double cab and i hadnt ever seen a twin turbo. i have only seen a single turbo on an air cooled engine.

have any of yall seen or heard of a twin turbo air cooled engine before? of if an engine shop makes them?

That looks like a nightmare to work on. I'd like to hear what that motor sounds like. Does anyone know the story on this one?

Your better off running a single turbo. With twins on a flat 4 you will have only two cylenders pushing through each turbo (two small turbos). With a single you have all 4 cylenders pushing/spining 1 turbo . If twins worked beter you would see poeple running them . Im no expert but it takes exhaust pressure to turn turbo,s most twin turbo setups are 6 cylenders and up. If i had money to spend and a Double cab ( i love double cabs) id run a 2180 82x92(thickwalled cylendres) with a CE(Competition Enginering) (single turbo) turbo set up with there GM throttle body fuel injection set up 8) .

Or maybe people are not willing to spend twice the amount of money that a twin setup would cost.

a guy by the name of dave perkins here in cailf built in my opiuin probely one of the baddest twin turbo setups ever built it was in a dragster. the engine was a pauter big block i think 3.5 the engine made over 1000 hp you want to see some enginering it would make your jaw drop. lets just say the dyno that it was on it could barrly hold the beast. i have my own personal saying for it. its the space shuttel from hell. thats becase the induction system aloan looked like somthing frome space. one bad ass ride. i wish he would bring it back out. easy 6sec ride for sure.. jeff d.

There will be one at Phoenix too.

I hear you on that one Marty like i said im no expert.Im sure there are ways of making big power with twins on a race car. I bet you could brew up something for cool for his double cab 8) . I just see a double cab as more of a driver more than a racer.

I have one going together for a customer right now.
I also have a WILD setup for my other motor for my race car. Just not enough hours in the day to get it all done.

Wow thats one bad mofo  . What kind of body is going on that thing?. Would that be Pro Mod ? I hope that thing comes to Sac in May 8) .

No thats Dave Folts work.
That motor was sold and is now in a dragster.

I am building a 3.5 liter single turbo monster for that same car right now. The longblock is all complete now and I will start the fab work soon.
I am hoping to make 700 - 1000 hp. We will never get it hooked up at the track so it may well be a dyno queen and run VERY de-tuned at he track.

The chassis has a composite and fiberglass Porsche 996 body on it that I built a long time ago. I will take some pics of it and post them up.

Marty Staggs Mon Apr 02, 2007 10:34 pm

The chassis was originally built for one of Lloyds 356 speedster bodies.
I updated the chassis and did up a more "modern" body for it.
There is no class that this car is legal for at VW races so it will run at NHRA and other events primarily.
