I wasn't sure where to post this......
I have what I assume is a "universal" gas tank. It has a plug on the front corner where the filler would be in an older bug.....that plug seeps fuel when the tank is fairly full. I've tightened it as much as possible and it still seeps.
What can I use to seal this thing off? Is there a thread sealer or a caulk product that won't break down when exposed to gasoline? Seems I've heard that plumbers tape will deteriorate in the presence of gas, so I didn't think that a silicone caulk would work either. How about some gasket-making...goop?...I'm not sure of the technical name. I'm open to ideas other than "replace the tank with the correct one" which I would do if I had bags of money to spend. Thanks |

You could seal the tank with this product. It works great. I have used it on several of my tanks.

Go to your FLAPS and get a tube of Versachem Type 2 Gasket Sealant. It'll hold up to gas and it remains pliable so you can still get it off if need be. |
