| Anyone who has a Berg Engine, more specifically a 2006cc. Are they worth the $$? What compression ratio are you running and how much hp are you getting? Do you have any problems running hot on the street? |

come on buddy, do you really expect somebody to tell you their problems on an engine they spent 8k on? I suppose you have heard the rumors, and hopefully you are not contemplating such a big purchase, but NOBODY is gonna tell you they spent all that money and have problems. Remeber, NOBODY talks crap about a berg engine, hehehe.
The SEMI HEMI causes the flame to travel differently in the cylinder, that is why you must advance the timing, that is why they run so hot. You must buy a berg muffler as no other muffler will withstand the heat for more than a year. you will have hot start problems.
Berg does have nice cranks, but unless you are putting out 300hp, and launching at 6k rpm's, you dont need that crank. A demello would do nicely for about $300. I could go on and on, but I'll save it. With all of todays new technology, why go back to the 70's when building a motor? |

| I haven't purchased any Berg parts for a few years, but I've built two previous engines with mostly Berg parts (except the stroker crankshaft which I could not afford at the time). They are one of the better companies in my view as the oil pumps, HD rocker kits, heads, case machining, etc is very well done (versus the crap I've purchased from some other vendors). I'm not sure if they build completed engines, but there are a few people on some of the ACVW website forums (eg. cal-look.com) who have gotten exceptional durability out of their 78 x 90.5 engine kits. I agree with the above post...I ordered my old Berg heads WITHOUT the semi-hemi as that is only needed for CRs above 8:1 (since most of us in North America can easily purchase 87 octane (91 RON) or even go with 91 octane (95 RON) on those hot summer trips or at the street drags). While I personally haven't used more than 8:1 CR, it seems as though quite a few people are using 8.5:1 with good heads and 44 or 48 IDFS (or IDAs), so try to get some feedback from those who are actually monitoring their engine life and temperatures. Again I would recommend cal-look.com forum or shoptalkforums.com. Good luck! |

Hey Erik,
Ive got a 1776 with semi-hemi heads no hot starts EVER! Oh, and my muffler is a kymco and it hasnt melted, been on the car for nearly 4 years. Build it right the first time and you will be much happier. |
