has anyone here ever run 14's in a bug with stock bore and stroke of a 1600? if so, could you give me a hint of your engine/trans combo? i'm looking to supprise my friend in his new Honda S 2000. It's supposed to run low 14's to high 13's. I've driven it and it's quite fun. Although it has 0 torque. I'm assuming that every 100 pounds of car is worth 10 HP or so. If his car weighs 2800 lbs. with 240 HP, and mine weighs 1800 lbs. with 140 HP, my performance should be real close to his in theory. Can I get my 1600 up to 120-140 hp without nitrous or turbo? Or would it be much easier to do with a mild 1914? Thanx for any info.

a 1914 would have to have some decent money spent on heads to get 140, and you wouldn't want to skimp on the parts when building a 140hp motor. A turbo on a 1600 would do the trick though, you might want to consider it. http://www.lowbugget.com has a nice 1600 turbo, but you could build a turbo setup for less than $600.

why not just build a stroker and tell him its a stock size engine ? lots of people lie about what they have invested in they're engine. just something else to consider. Jason

you could build a n.a. 1600 to run 14s in a light sedan but its not gonna be too streetable

Interetsing thread...What is 'n.a.' twoolard?
I've rebuilt and beefed my 1776 to just about 120 HP and am looking for the next step as well...I am seriously considering a nitrous set up.
Power on demand and a good HP per dollar invsted?

n.a. = natuarally aspirated (sp?). No nitrus/turbo/supercharger...

Well, I can't say for sure yet that my car will run 14's (although, I've been told it should run low 14's)- with a scat 69mm crank, stock bore, 40X32 heads, ported quite nicely on the intake side, Engle 110 cam (too small, really), 40 IDF's with 32mm vent's, 1 5/8" exahust, and I was running a 009 w/Pertronix, which is very nice, but I am now running a Joe Hunt magneto... I would have to say try some 40X35.5 heads, with small chambers to keep up the compression, and maybe a larger cam. I think the key will be the headwork, but the cam really starts loosing flow around 5500 rpm. With a larger exahust, it might do better (and maybe ratio rockers?) Hope this helps! Scott

Oh I forgot- 9:1 compression, too ;)
