View original topic: Need advice!!! 1914 or 2054

Hello all,

I am in need of a little advice. I was getting ready to build a fairly low budget 1914 using one of the stock 1600 dual port motors that I have in the garage, when I found a 2054 long block for sale that seems like a good deal. The motor was used in a mild drag car for a few years, and has been freshened with new rings, bearings, etc. The 2054 has the following:

74x94 mild drag motor
8 doweled crank
stock balanced rods
fk8 cam
mahle pistons and cylinders
street eliminator heads ported and polished
44x37.5 valves
weber 48ida intakes
motor minus carbs and distributor

I am trying to decide if this motor might be a good investment instead of building the 1914 from scratch. I think that the cam is pretty big for regular street use, and I would break the motor down and probably change it to an Engle 110 or 120. The thing I am really worried about is the heads. They have HUGE valves and I am not sure if they will work on a street motor. Will I need to get into high rpm before it will make any power, or will there be enough torque at low RPM to make it a street car?

Does anyone have any experience with this type of combination? What should I run for carbs if I buy this motor? I have a brand new set of Kadrons that I was going to run on the 1914, but I think that they are probably too small for the 2054. Can I run them until I get enough money together to buy as set of Webers?

How about exhaust? I need heat as I live in Northern Michigan and it is cold in the morning all summer so I will have to run heater boxes. Does anyone have any experience with the high performance heater boxes that Rocky Mountain sells?

I know it is a lot of info, but I would like to make a decision on a motor this week and move forward with one or the other so that I can have it ready for spring.

Please post responses here or E-mail them to me at:

Ask the guys over on the cal-look.com forums about the motors. Those guys run bigger then that on the street. The heads seem a bit big but you might be able to sell them and buy something else with a little smaller valves. You can use the kadrons www.lowbugget.com has some mods to make them work with bigger engines. If you run the 2054 you may also want to make sure the comp ratio is low enough to use on the street. If it was in a drag car it may be kinda high. I guess it just depends on how much you want to spend and how fast you want to go. Good luck with it though.

All I can say is MORE POWER. Yes there could be a few draw back but it would be well worth going that fast. If your on a tight budget go with the 1914cc. Good Luck

It deoends. HOW "used" is the engine? What is the crank turned to? Have the heads ever been been run hot enough to drop a valve seat and been repaired? On a 2054, the Kadrons will be a little weak, on my 2016 the engine flat ran out of fuel and iar at about 5,100 rpm, which was like a built-in rev limiter.
If you want performance, go as big as you can afford.

i agree 2054 will give you good power but cuts way down on reliability and i wouldnt use stock rods in a motor of that size.Bu to each his own 1915 is a very reliable proven motor my favorite for daily driver emissions performance motor.
