View original topic: How many cc's?

I am an engine tuner, not an engine builder, but I'd like to change that soon.
Quick question: How many cc's of displacement would a 84mm stroke 90.5mm bore engine have? Would the compression be too high? Could that be fixed? Has anyone even done this before?
Thanks for your input.

2161cc motor and I'm sure someone has done it. Stroker motors are very popular with speed demons and torque monkeys. I'm building a 1904 for my bus 74X90.5. You may also try Cal-look.com for answers too.

More people are building 2110 cc(82x90.5)and 2161 cc (84x90.5) motors rather than 2275's these days (except racers). There is a nice blue Beetle with a 2161 cc in a recent HotVWs issue. You can't beat 90.5 cylinders as they are pretty much bullet-proof.

I have too disagree. Engine sizes are increasing in displacement. Look in Trends or Hot VW's. The feature in Hot vw's is a NOS 2332cc. I also have a 2332cc in my Ghia Vert with 45 Dellorto's 1.4 rockers, Large oval big valve P/P heads all the goodies. You can't beat 94's and an 84 crank. I run 9:1 compression in mine. Hot day- oil pressure-idles 25 psi!
Thanks Rick

Any thing over the 82mm crank gets very expensive. Check this page for cc computer. -> http://www.1800vw.bizhosting.com/motor.computer.htm as the bore increases the compression raito also goes up. Many engine builders make the mistake of not opening up the breathing aera around the valves when going to larger cylinders. Big valve heads will often breathe less if the pocket around the valves is not inlarged. This will also be lowering the compression raito at the same time. I like bigger engines the bigger the better and 82mm and 84mm cranks are about the same price i just got an 84mm crank from CB and it $450 the same price as the 82mm cranks i am buliding a 2332 with 9.5:1 compression with high flowing heads and a big cam. What most people forget is the rocker geomertry if you get it right you will have no problums, but if it is off expect to be pulling the engine apart soon.
Thanks Steve
