Some things about this story makes no sense. Hey, there's an idea, How about a time machine like in the movie back to the future.
Hitler had his engineer build him a KDF time machine and he didnt really die, he time warped into the future and he's been living among us the whole time. Quick, somebody call CNN, anyone smell a moviescript cooking  |

As far as people putting things in attics -
Dont forget Henry Ford. He built his first car in a garage - then realized later it wouldnt fit through the door. A sledge hammer solved that problem.
There's been plenty of instances where people have stored cars in places that are then forgotten about.
A friend I know of bought a house back east in the 1980's. Upon the tour there were tons of boxes in the basement and was told that they would be going with the house when sold since the owner didn't want to bother with them.
After he bought the house he started clearning the junk away to find a complete Model T Roadster (I think it was a pre-starter 1917). Upon closer inspection there was NO way the car could have been driven in there. It turns out the previous owner had bought the car piece by piece and restored it in his basement - only to realise there was no way to get it out. Totaly frustrated he left it there - piled junk on top of it and died in the 1960's. Over the years when the house changed hands, the junk stayed in place.
The new owner of the house then dismantled the car piece by piece and hauled it outside - and re-assembled it - and sold the car off in I think 1989 or so.
So -
Anything is possible.
My guess is - a WWII soldier brought it home with him from the Front - and that was that. Stored it away in the attic for the day when gasoline would become scarce - and when the time came to brick in the attic figured - we'll - someday I'll need it and can get it out by removing the bricks.... |

Give it a rest guys!! I dont think he's trying to bullshit anyone.
1- He hasnt been there.
2-Hasnt seen the car.
3-He's trying to get some idea of what it is or might be, until he can check it out.
4- He has even asked anyone in the area to check it for him.
There are all kinds of bizzare car stories out there, alot of them are true.
This world is full of all kinds of fucked up people who do weird shit, Who knows why they closed the car in.
Im not saying that i believe him yet, I need pictures or proof. But I also dont see any reason not to believe him.
What if? this could be the real deal. What are you guys going to say then?? |

Ohh come on you say?... it could have been an "attic storage barn" above a house! Yeah...I tell ya when I bought my last house it HAD to have one of them storage attic barns above my house.... those are SO convienient and so popular, ....lord that is the dumbest thing I have EVER heard of.
Then if this amzaingly stupid building's existence with storage above the living quarters was true...well then of course someone no longer was happy with a door to shut it, open it and basically use the storage...they had to brick it up because they were never going to use it again, of course.
Hmmm.... should we at least take 5 minutes to remove that 2000 lb car from the overhead rafters of this building before we block it up for ever?...NAHHH just leave it there, since we are going to so much trouble blocking the entrance up why spend a a lil bit of time to remove the car IN THE RAFTERS....what a bunch of bull-sh!T
...split, super beetle or Jimmy Hofa...show us the pics of this....come on, seriously stop with the dumb excuses, post pics or shut the heck up until you take the trouble to get pics somehow. Until you do your post is useless babble
Quote: Then if this amzaingly stupid building's existence with storage above the living quarters was true
Yep. I've never seen a house with an attic. If anything is amazingly stupid it was that comment.
I'm pretty sure I said in the original post I didn't know what it was, but I found some information and was asking for help. Instead some people are just like "oh bullshit theres no way its a war time beetle blah blah" alright then, I've even confirmed that - now. Thanks for your help. There is some kind of VW up there, and from what I can tell it appears to have a "stove" in the front for burning something. Again, this is all getting filitered through my dad, who has no interest in this or any car and who I only talk to MAYBE once a week - he only told me because he thought it was funny and knew I liked VWs
So, its not MY car and never will be. It also isn't MY house. I'm not going to take off of work and drop out of college courses to drive across the country and take pictures of some oddity for you guys. I've told my dad to do it. But then again, he also has a job and his first priority is not driving a few hours just to take some pictures to satisfy MY curiousity - let alone if he knew it was for some schmucks on the internet. Give me a break. You act like everyone in the world lives and breathes VWs. I got news for you, most people see those 30-50,000 split window Beetles and think they are cute or "neat" but would laugh in your face if they saw how much you spent on them. Seriously - *I* get it, but most people don't and my dad is one of those people. I'm not going to go out of my way to pester him to get pictures because you morons are foaming like rapid dogs. Jesus. We've already established that it 99% is not a split, so why do you even care. Why is everyone still acting like I've found a '42 somewhere. It very obviously isn't - so chill.
As for why the attic door got bricked in, I don't know exactly. But I'm guessing it wasn't the same guy who put the car up there, obviously. The guy who bricked it up likely didn't have the ramp or hoist or whatever to get it down. Come on, all of us work with old cars here and old homes are sometimes no different - people half-ass stuff. They do the minimum of what has to be done to accomplish their goal. "Hmmm this fuel tank is rusting. Ah, let me just put this one here from my tractor in there with sheet metal screws- it works fine" Or "Wow I want to seal up the giant door on the side of my house so I can insulate my attic or *whatever*. Yes there is a car there, but its isn't in the way and I have no idea how to get it out because I didn't put it in there - where are the bricks".

In most states you can't even have a sink in the garage because it is then considered living quarters, or a dwelling space which violates all kinds of codes! If you're dad plans on selling the house he will have to remove the beetle one way or another.
Definitly an interesting story, and if it's fabricated then you have one hell of an imigination! |

I really don't have a problem with people asking for pics. Its the people who are being dicks and saying "blah blah this is bullshit," then making comments that show they obviously didn't read the thread (still saying stuff about original VW holzbrenners, telling ME to go take some pics, etc) - then asking for pics.
Believe me I want pictures too. Half of the people in this thread are too moronic to actually read the whole thread, Jesse James included.

He had it inspected, thats how he found out about it? I don't know. I do know I've lived in and been in a crapload of houses with sinks in the garage - some of them were new construction. All of them were inspected when they were bought and many of them are now sold (and thus inspected again). Never a problem. |

I was just using an example, and im quite sure that a car in the attic of a house would never pass any inspection to be able to sell, or be able to pass a lenders inspection. |

I have never heard this? My house in N. CA had a large garage-type sink in it.
My house now in AZ is completely plumbed for a sink, toilet, sewage, etc. although nothing is there. |

I have heard of several occasions where people have had to remove a sink in a garage.. Maybe the city was just messing with them. I know a lot of garages have washers and dryers with a sink set up next to them.. anyway If Coad says it can pass inspection then i trust his word. Kind of strange though |

When I built my shop (essentially an oversized detached garage) the county took quite an interest in my desire to have a bathroom in it - that raised a couple of flags with the building permit office. |

LOL I rented a house when I moved to Ariz for a bit. It had a finished garage, with a full bathroom in it. Toilet, sink, and a shower! Saves on running into the house all greasy n grimey to take a piss. LOL
As far as this tale goes, if it was ME, and my parents had this in the attic. I'd make the trip and check it out myself. If not to only verify, it wasn't a gold mine in hiding! |

Lets just suppose that our man here is telling the truth...he has no reason to manufacture such a tale and it is just wild enough of a story to be true.
If you guys keep beating him with the bull$hit stick do you think he will share the pics with us when his pops finally takes some?
Cut the guy some slack already, it's NOT a WW2 car...he made that clear.
Whatever it is though, I think we all would want to see it.
If we never see it than it goes down in history as a tall tale....no harm no foul.
Did I ever tell you guys about the guy that came to my shop that told me he knew where a real VW30 was? Now THAT was a bull$hit story...or was it? Maybe he was telling the truth. Maybe he took offense to me laughing in his face and I missed the biggest chance of my life... who knows.
(but it was probably BS) |

The Holzburners in general is not anything special. I just say this as not only Germany or Norway had those.
They were very common in Finland too during the 40's an 50's during and after the WWII... Maybe not that many 50's VW's but very many other makes atleast. Even buses and trucks. Many of the 30's and 40's vintage trucks have even been restored to the woodburner versions.
And there are even still research done on how to improve the technology for todays use.... |
