(currently looking for a stock beetle and dreaming up what can be done to the 1600cc after it's gone through)

i've got alot more into my 1915 than 1k, don't know how you're going to get 120hp out of 1k.

$1k is unrealistic. You couldn't find 120hp unless its from crackhead. $2k is more realistic but u have to be lucky and or wait a year for parts to go up for sale. 1915 120 engle cam and high 8 cr. Cb banditos 40x35 heads c/w crank 40 idfs. But oh look we're at 3k already

or do what we used to in in the old days. Buy a car with a nice big engine for $5000, put in a stocker and flip it for $4000. Presto, turn key for $1K that you can test drive!!!

Buying a car and pulling the good motor then reselling it is a great idea. How well do sand buggies motors run on the street? It seems that some vw enthusists have really good luck with used motors and what not. I myself use risk and reward to measure my options. :lol:

I've had nothing but awful luck with used motors. The motor in my car when I bought it had 1/4" of endplay (I didn't know any better) and the H-case I got to rebuild it cracked upon startup.

She will get a new one within a week. Her trans is also beefed up in a week. NOthing to do in a fine car other than transplant power and enjoy.

The AA 40x35 500-series head will get you there. It flows just around 115 CFM at .500" in its' unported version. All the head needs is a few hours work to clean up the ports and chambers, to get the material out of the air's way. That will net you a few extra CFM too.

So you have the 120 HP head. Next you need ~.500" lift, enough duration to make power around 5500-6000 rpm, enough compression to run good fuel and make good torque, and enough ccs to use up all of the heads' flow capability. The 1915 will fit the bill just fine.

A good 5,500 rpm cam that lifts high is the FK7. I've used it a couple times, and I love it. Smooth idle, quiet operation, and stock-like drivability with a larger engine. The engine should have around 8.7:1 static cr with this cam on 91 octane.

Run a tight deck height (.040") by shortening your cylinders accordingly. Flycut the heads to meet your target cr.

Exhaust diameter: 1 1/2" real merged header, Carburetors: 40 HPMX/IDFs with 30-32mm vents, Bosch 7 heat range plugs, or comparable
