I've seen roman numerals used on 36hp Bosch vacuum advance units, which correspond to quarters; so it's possible your lens was made April, May or June 1950. Posting pictures will help...

My lenses have one LEFE 28L1X IIIU
and the other LEFE 28L1X IIIR

this romans numbers are in the corner up from VWlogo

and down of BOSCH MARK apears in big numbers:

LE1801A NL K1049 A 1208
LE1801A NL A 1208

some one know the year?

If these lenses have "BOSCH" in block letters, IIIR is 3d quarter of 1960 and IIIU is 3d quarter of 1963. If "Bosch" is in the pre-1957 script style, oh well...

The lenses ha ve the "BOSCH" in vintage style....

Are the "Reflectors" for the Snowflake Tail lights 56/61 date specific like the headlight buckets? The ones on my Jan 58 have the part# and has "S-12" with a large "M" at the bottom? I know that my Headlight buckets are stamped S-49, I believe to be the 49th Week of 1957.. :-k

just got a BR8 centrifugal distributor... can't date it.
It only wears a little 10 stamped at the body... and a big 1 on one other side...

any thoughts? Oh, badge is french...

I restore the SWF bakelite flashers and as a result of this thread, have been paying attention to the date codes on them. I am presently doing a lot of 11 of them and sorted them by date code.

These flashers were used in US market Beetles an Buses from '55-'57, mandated by the US law requiring flashing turn signals (semaphores continued in other markets).

The date codes are stamped on the back cover, on the "ring" that holds the mounting grommet as seen below.

The ones on the left are "Gs" (1955), the center "Hs" (1956) and the right "Js" (1957). Note that the '55 ones don't have the "6 Volt 2x20 Watt" text. All of the '56 and '57 ones do.

Ok, I got one J in that center pile accidentally. Also note that one has both a "CH" (Mar '56) and "GG" (July '55) stamp on it. Perhaps a "reworked" unit?

For the model year '58, with the new dashboard, the "can" type flasher replaced the bakelite box style. It had screw terminals on the bottom and was also date coded.

Here is a "LL" (Nov '59) one. I do have an "HJ" (Aug 57) also, indicating that the change was a model year (Aug-Jul) year changeover.

Fun stuff these date codes, and of interest to the real detail oriented vintage enthusiast........!

I have bosch 010, production commenced in '59 with date code 3A. What gives. The number and the letter are clear, I am not mistaken.

I have one in my parts pile that has "CJ" on the tab. Any idea what that means?

March 1957--SWF date codes are decoded on the first page of this thread.

Ahh. I missed that. Thanks. I was just looking at what was posted above and didn't see the rest.

the '64 parts catalog i have shows scripted headlight lenses and complete early headlights in the spares listing. it also shows scripted driving lights.
