From dropgates.com

The B-pillar should seal unless your door latch is mis-adjusted?

The lower A-pillar won't seal if you have the plain rectangular seals as they are too thin. The WCM seals work better here as they are thicker and curved.

The latch is adjusted so that the door and the body are even when shut...I think it's just the tiny seals that I received. They are about half as thick as what is shown in that right hand pic with the seal pulled out slightly. I cut strips of double-thick corrugated cardboard to put behind the seals...ghetto, but it worked good.
Funny, I have a truck, but always forget to check dropgates.

You probably have the new Wolfsburg West seals. I just tried to install some last night and have the same problems.

I have always used WW in past years and they have been thick and seal very well, you even have to give them time to break in. The recent set I just bought are 2mm smaller in heigth and width! My doors shut perfectly and I have severe gaps at the lower A and B pillar as well you do not get a good seal in the other areas. I emailed WW this morning about this and will see if it is a fluke or this is what they sell now.

I will be returning them if this is what they have now, as it is ridiculous to
pay $60 for seals that do not seal at all. I have some pictures comparing the new seal to their old seals I can post later today.

I too am experiencing the door not touching the rubber with proper adjustment.
Was about to start thinking of an alternative universal rubber or something till I reread this post.
Mine are WW as well.
Will these remedy the issue?

If what you receive is as pictured they are totally different than what WW is shipping.

I just installed a set of these today on my Westy (Ronnie recommended them). They look just like the pic and they make good contact all the way around the door and the door is still easy to close. Good stuff!

Has anyone used the square profile rubber for the cargo doors to seal up their pre 64 front doors? I will be working on mine soon and will post photos of the outcome, but maybe someone has already done it.

The stuff from WWest is all the same sized square foam and it is all too small to seal most spots properly.

I wonder if WCM cargo door seals are thicker and would work as you said for the front doors better...though I think it is all black.

Does EIS folks make cargo door seals that are thicker and would work per what Neil is suggesting?

splitpile Tue Jan 20, 2009 2:26 pm

The WCM and EIS seals are exactley the same except for the materials they are made from. EIS copied WCM's and use a lighter/softer foam. I sell both and I give the buyer the chose and explain how each work.

I am working it ourt to see if the cargo door seal rubber I sell can also be used in the front doors for the vintage corect people who don't want to update to VW's last version of door seals.

Thanks Ronnie, this will be super helpful to the vintage nuts.

Has anyone installed the rubber trim which goes in this slot? If so how horrible a project is it? Any tips or does anyone know who would do it for cash before ruin the material first. I have yet to finish the job on my side curtains for my other car and it has a similar slot.

See the yellow circle area.

UZI Wed May 12, 2010 9:37 am

that there is probably one of the easiest seals to install. way easier than poput seals with a similar profile.

step 1, get rid of the old stuff, 2, clear out the channel of dirt, debris and old pieces of rubber that you missed, 3, lube up the channel with some soapy liquid, 4, start sliding it in from the back forward, puish from behind, pull on the front with some visegrips.

it also helps if you make the rubber base that slides into the channel slightly pointy.

AaronBlanchard Wed May 12, 2010 11:30 am

I just finished replacing just about every seal on my bus, and that one was the easiest. I did not need to use any tools other than my hands to install it, and a pair of sissors to trim to length. Just soapy water, and push and pull, maybe 5 minutes on each side.

Dave24 Wed May 12, 2010 11:38 am

Piece 'o cake, as stated above.

LAGrunthaner Thu May 13, 2010 3:17 am

Sounds great thanks guys, I haven't installed the frame to the door yet would it be easier to install the rubber with the frame off the door or bolted on?

UZI Thu May 13, 2010 5:03 am

frame on.
