I have a 1776 in my bus with dual Solex 35 PDSIT carbs. I live at 7,000 feet above sea level and I'm trying to work out what jets would work best, not only for my location, but also for when I travel to lower altitudes.
I was in touch with Aircooled.net and they recommended 45 for the idle, and 135 for the main for 7000'.
I was wondering what other people have had good luck with especially people who travel over a range of altitudes.
Thanks |

Scroll down to the Scat Solex 35's.
I found this site to be very helpful with more than just the jets.
Single quiet muffler with heater boxes. As far as the valves, 35.5 X 32.

I have a bug in peru and It travles up and down the Andes from 0 to 15,000 ft. It is really hard to get it to run well at all altitudes.
Got to get out and change the jets and adjust the timing all the time to keep it from pinging...
You will never be happy because it will run rich at high altitudes and lean at low altitudes. If you are planning to stay mainly at that 7000 ft the best thing to do is run it rich with the jets John recomended and add water injection. Raising the compression helps a lot too. You can go up to 9.5-1 or so at that altitude
The best carb I found is a Progressive. It is easy to change the Jets and it has a choke that you can disable and use to limit the airflow at low altitudes.
Before you spend a lot of money like I did, your best bet it to look into fuel injection or a small aircraft carb. I could have put a nice fuel injection system in for what I paid messing around with different carbs and such... |
