Complete early type 3's ignition switch Price: $750
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/classifieds/detail.php?id=2742840

$750... LOL.

The wires are cut short:

Wrong key blank too

NOS ignition, longer wires

I looked at the old ads and there was a few NOS ones on here in the last year for 1/2 that price and 1 that was even less.

$475 to $650 is the going range I've seen in the last year. I wish I still had the one in the second pic. Anything more is setting new market prices for true NOS ones. Still have the blaupunkt though. 8)

I only see maybe one in 100 that may be wanting to spend the cash for real true nos parts. That number goes down yearly as it seems the rusty, lowered $hit boxes are outnumbering the restored ones by a lot at any show or gathering. Everyone wants the good stuff, but not at crack pricing - on occasion.

$580 for these kits just seems absolutely bonkers.

Agree, maybe with the NOS horns too but even that seems high to me

Seller always has very cool stuff at crack prices.

No whine, just thought this is a nice '65 Squareback in the UK

I thought it was my old '65 for a second but I had an export model without side marker lights

That reminds me a lot of my 66 that I had back in 83-86. Like Ev pointed out mine didn't have the euro marker lights.

My whine is that it’s not next to my squareback.

That is a sweet car!

My whine is that it is such a nice looking and well preserved car, yet it has a type 1 generator and type 1 fuel pump. The purist in me is showing..

Agreed. :(

I missed the generator but I admit the fuel pump and fuel line routing bugged me too.

It didn't really bother me, but then I'm in an area where finding good parts is hard enough, let alone correct type 3 parts. I'm not too crazy about how the fuel pump is plumbed, but that's an easy fix. Finding a correct type 3 12 volt generator might be tougher in Italy. Especially since it's a 12 volt conversion car (was supposed to be a 6 volt car). Not everyone has an ISP West right around the corner.

My whine is, why are so many people getting rid of their “ labor of love”?

ALLWAGONS wrote: My whine is, why are so many people getting rid of their “ labor of love”?

My issue is space. I have too many Type 3s and only one garage space. Also, I'm a Squareback guy so I'd like to keep my early Squareback over the Notchback. Tough decisions, for sure, but it is what it is.

ALLWAGONS Thu Oct 09, 2025 3:25 pm

It was kind of a rhetorical question. We All hunt for those parts, look , bid, offer, trade and finally build, never thinking of reselling. When people start selling off, something must be up. Squaretobehip, 260km, W1K1 just to name a few.

squaretobehip Fri Oct 10, 2025 9:45 am

If I had more space I'd scoop up 260KMs Notchback, too.
