The strips that hold the curtain to the closet are screwed on, a really stubby phillips may do it but don't be suprised if you end up sliding the closet forward.
How's the seal on that window? now's the time to replace it if it's old and leaky. |

Will the closet slide forward? The Bently says the sink, jump seat, bed, and headbanger have to come out to get that closet out. That's a little overwhelming to just replace a curtain!
The window seal was going to be my next question. We're going to take some tax money and buy seals for pretty much every door and window. So yeah, I think replacing the curtain and the window seal at the same time would be a great idea... just didn't know if I really had to remove the entire interior to do so. |

Our '79 Riviera had a piece of wood the shape of the window behind the cabinet. It looked original with the ASI/ Riviera sticker on the back. Now we just use curtains, but I like the limo tint idea. |

It's been a few years since I did it but IIRC yes, you have to drop the headbanger and drive the carriage bolts out of the seat box attachments in the closet wall and it'll slide forward/up just enough to tip out of the way. You may only have to remove the headbanger and loosen the rest of the bolts so the closet can tip inward enough to get at the screws holding the ply panel to the window surround, depends on how determined and patient you are. Once the closet is loose you may find the typical collection of 1/2 eaten suckers, dog hair, coins, crayons and spilled sticky things and decide it's time for a complete interior pull, be prepared.
Make sure you tape all the lower edges of the closet and any other cabinets you disturb and even with that still be careful you don't chip the laminate, particularly going back in. |

I managed to pull the closet out without removing the bed, wasn't that big a deal and it was a lot easier than trying to replace the wood curtain with the cabinet still in. |

I have canvas curtains in my bus. I didn't remove anything to get the curtain in the closet window. I had the canvas curtain for the closet window sown on a rigid, woven mesh like material from a fabric store. This made the curtain stiff enough to slide into place through the closet opening (the one with the mirror) into place. Once it was slid partially in, I opened the back hatch, opened that cabinet and pulled the curtain in to place the rest of the way. Attached with screws through canvas/mesh. Worked good. |

I just did this too. Search "the red bus chronicles"
I pulled the bed and closet out. It's really easy to do and you'll feel very satisfied at all the crap you clean out while you're at it. Head banger, bed and then the closet are how I did it. I also used a piece of paneling to back the curtain with. It also looks better your clothes perspective to see the wood panel instead of the curtains. |

If you can get at the mounting screws, you can pull the board without taking off any of the cabinets. Mine worked this way.
some can be reached through the oval long closet door. The others through the rear fold down door. The board can be removed through the closet door. |

Wait... so the wood I see behind the cabinet is the curtain panel? I just always assumed that piece of wood was the cabinet backing and the curtain panel was behind that! |

Yes, my old dry rotted curtain was attached directly to that panel. |

X3, the curtain is stapled to a sheet of plywood that's screwed to the bus wall surrounding the window, you see the back of it in the closet and rear cubby. |

Does anyone have any pictures of how it's supposed to go? Mine is missing and I would like to replace it. |

This is what i had when i bought the camper in '82. the PO was a physical therapist. Bette Midler from Aiea, a mime and a renaissance portait are still recognizable even though the collage has faded in the last 29 years

THANK YOU TO ALL!
Sure enough, managed to pull the board that the curtain is stapled to right through the closet door! I replaced the curtain and slid it back in, no problem at all! I can't believe I've procrastinated this long to do something that was that easy...
So here's the result: (previously it just had a white curtain in it)
And I got the interior curtains up to match, as well as a couple pillows.

I don't have curtains, I use reflective window mats instead so used a flag to cover behind the wardrobe.
tied a string to each top corner and pulled it through
