I have a 3" lift already. Great for leg room but doesn't increase the side clearance right where my Knee is and I've adjusted my seats upwards somewhat to sit in the normal position . I very well may have more head clearance than someone without a lift but In an accident i think i will get head banged. |

Yes please for the love of god pad the cage. Even in play cars you should pad it.

And that isn't swimming pool noodle foam! $20 is cheap insurance for your head. |

Blitz. . .I have a 5/1600 car . . I know what it is, and what the rules are. I have raced in SCORE, BITD (bikes only though), and recently in MDR races. I'll keep my number to myself I don't need to swing my penis arround. Eric for the record from this end is an amazing guy, and a very talented driver. Of course I know who King Dave is. . .Also a very nice guy that is a very talented builder. As I said in my last post There are many ways to do things for ANY car as long as its within the rules. It would be great to make my car into a 5 unlimited. . .maybe someday. I do it mine you do it yours I personaly dont think tieing the cage to the body will make one bit of difference one way or the other. Other than say personal preference. I prefer to be able to take the body off, and replace as nessesary. If you never heard of that then thats OK. I'm sure that I haven't heard of a lot of things in regards to off road racing maybe you know it all?. As well personaly you believing that I race is irrelevant to me. I know what I do, and how much of my time, and money go into it. I wish you, and Eric the best in the 500. A broken leg will keep me out of it this year. Last race I ran was Loughlin. DNFed that one. |

I don't know it all, heck, don't know squat compared to others, the big thing is I know who to ask. Dave is the shiznit and he helps me alot, he built my cage and for the record, the name King Dave comes from his 5/1600 racing days, he was a killer on the course! He has built 20 something class 11 cars, many which are still out there. None of which you can just remove the body. Your right to each his own, thanks for the well wishes, you can watch live tracking of the race on the IRC website. If your going to build a cage, no matter how its tied in, take the time to do it right the first time. It sucks to go back and try and fix it later. And padding is a must, especially if you are not wearing a helmet! BTW what did you race at Laughlin? Not smart ass just wondering, seriously. |

I raced the Hare Scrambles on March 1st. I run a 08 YZF 450F. Second lap of three I flatted, and tore up the rim, and then my ankle. Great course I love it out there. I have never ran a car in BITD.
I agree with you on build it right the first time. Coming from Drag racing, and having to tech cars with my dad, we always made sure to be able to take the body off the car to check the cage. It paid off many times. It was a pain in the a** to get the 63 Nova body on/off, but we always found something to fix. A lot of drag/ off road guys tie in the body, and cage then cut the tied area out as needed. That in my opinion is why I did my car that way. Off road seems to be a heck of a lot harder in the long run on a chassis. Metal fatigues a lot quicker no matter who built the car, and when. Again I agree with the build it right mentality. Its the only way to be. . .dont cut corners. . .dont penny pinch, and stress safety 100%. I'll try to check up on you guys on IRC. Have a safe go at it, and haul ass! |
