If you got it hook it up to the VW cable an see.

Probably run into calibration issues.

I still need to get a ratio adapter made for the Autometer speedo.
If you notice on my speedo...when I'm at 3400 rpms, it should be 65mph...but the speedo reads 58mph.

As for the speedometer cable...
The threads on the back of the Autometer speedo is 5/8"x18 thread.

I used the knurled thumbscrew (5/8" - 18 threads) from a early Chevy tranny to speedometer cable (wrecking/bone yard), reamed out the inner diameter of the knurled thumbscrew till it slips over the stock VW speedometer cable and screwed to the back of the Autometer speedo.

What size tires are you running on the front of your car? a smaller tire would show a faster speed right? I'm going to be using a 225/75/15 off road tire so it would be off even more I would think.

So, aside from calibration issues, If I can get something to ensure a good connection between the stock speedo cable and the autometer guage, it should display speed, albeit incorrect speed. Is that right?

So, If I were driving down to Monterey for the MPAS Cruise and was able to connect my sender to my new autometer mechanical speedometer, aside from calibration issues, If I can get something to ensure a good connection between the stock speedo cable and the autometer guage, it should display speed, albeit incorrect speed. I found a place that make a adapter that you can change the ratios to calibrate you speedo, but have not had time to check them out.

I hooked mine up the same way as Banzai KG did with the thumbscrew off an old gm speedometer cable pre 75 or so 5/8-18 threads and it is about 5-7 mph off but it works nice. I researched a couple speedo shops which said they could make me one but it was real costy!

3/8 flare plumbing nut works perfect. And with 165 tires it reads 17% slow.
