Bought first ghia 68. was told ran good with 1600cc had it transported to my home. it drove about a mile n half and quit running. been working on it since started with spark plugs and it just kept opening doors to everything else it needs fixing or tuning. carbs are way out of tune running on mostly gas its so rich. and found that it's a 1915cc dual port with idf 44 webers so that's cool. as long as it starts back up again when I'm done. fingers crossed 🤞

I also found time to finally install these door card protectors as I am sick of marking them up when I swing my big size 12’s in.

Where did you source those door card protectors, please?

The door card protectors came from CIP-1.ca as I am in Canada , CIP-1.com if you are in the USA.

So as reported previously, I was having an oil leak problem from my lower pulley, somehow the sand seal was failing and allowing oil to seep and get blown all over my engine.

I finally found a good local VW mechanic, who owns his own awesome Bug and Notchback, so took it to him to fix the problem. He had and installed a new tighter fitting sand seal, tightened everything down, and the oil stopped blowing out. I had also taken the advice from members here and in the Performance section to reduce the oil level, which I think also helped. Special thanks to 74Thing, Brandon, for reaching out on PM to give me a bunch of things to check and some resources to read!

While my Ghia was in his shop, I had him finally tune in the carbs. He noticed on my build sheet that the idle jets were 45's and he felt they should have been 50's, which he installed. I don't know enough about jetting to question it. I figured since he has a 68 Bug and a 64 Notchback, with race engine, as well as a Porsche with air cooled engine, he would know about these things, which he did.

Also had him align my front end, and for fun he fixed the horn! I only get a lite shock if my arm is on the door chrome, but it works and keeps me awake!!

Drove out with my local VW Crew, Capital VW Club, to the VW Nationals at Mason Dixon dragstrip last weekend in Maryland, and the Ghia ran soooo smooth! She wants to go full out but I had to cruise at a reasonable speed, NO flat spots, slight push on the pedal and she moves. I'll have to find a long open road to see how she'll run at full speed, to a degree!!

At the end of the day, I picked up a top 20 award out of about 60 or so cars on display, so not a bad day or week! I like the shows where the spectators judge and submit their choice instead of judges who seem too picky.

Back to tinker on more stuff until the next disaster!!!

I finally got around to lining the hood and making a carpet cover for gas tank area. It cleans everything up I think and hopefully stops a bit of noise. There is a foam panel under the carpet.

Annual inspection and registration time. Here.'s the Ghia hanging out in the inner city workshop with the daily drivers. Although much older we know which one is better looking.

Then I took it for a drive and enjoyed it.

CIP1 special ordered it for me as they don’t normally stock that one.
It works out cheaper for me to do it that way as I don’t end off paying duty when it comes across the border to Canada, and they ship for free on orders over $100.
I think they ordered it from Airhead parts in the US.
