Are you going to drill the front panel to run the tubing like the stock setup? It looks like the over rider has clearance to bring it up from below if it was routed via the floor.

Im going to drill the front panel like vw did.

So I got the homey hook up from Hoody - told where a listing on German eBay was for a set of headlight washers. I ended up getting them as my set was incomplete and had a couple issues.

On my original set the main pump is froze - probably rusted - not working and does not come apart. I was going to get a pump from something newer - but this popped up and looked good. This new set also has the og wiring harness and relays, something else I didn't get the first time. Also nice to get one of the og bolts to hold the over rider on, the camps for the bolts on the over rider, couple of clips to hold the water tank in and the original hose with bungs that go through the front nose metal. Very complete set up with the column switch as well.

This pump works and the wiring harness should plug right in, switch the switch and maybe this will all work in my panel 8)

Hoody I owe you one brother!

So, number 7 on the diagram. Not clear what purpose they serve though.

I got my washer tank installed last week. I didn't want to drill the bulk head so I just installed with the small pump and deleted the large pump. I used a section of fuel line between the large original cloth wrapped tubing and the pump. The I cut up a Continental Tires coozey that I had laying around to prevent the brass coupler from rattling against the metal behind the tank. Rather than screwing it in place, not wanting to drill holes in the bus, I bent the flap open that normally holds the black panel and got the plastic tank edge stuffed in there.

I got the tank from Pawel in Poland a couple of years ago. Turns out there was small puncture hole that I ended up patching with epoxy. The wiring harness, I just used the section for the small pump and eliminated the relay.

Yeah those metal tabs hold the tank on - but I didn't use it either as the tank seems to fit well behind the heater tube.

Im looking at a bad ignition switch on my 76 - if so then it will be a good time for me to change the wiper switch out to the washer one and get the wiring set up on mine - plug the pumps in and drill holes in my front nose  Plumb it all up and get it working too.

When I first put in a VW/Bosch electric windshield washer pump many years ago, I rigged it up with a simple on off switch using a dome light switch and the switch knob bezel off of an early bay wiper switch with the stem cut off. The small original tank didn't last long due to the small volume, so the larger Swedish tank will be really nice for that reason. I had previously put the switch in the location where it normally sits in the earlier busses.

Eventually, I plan to use the later washer switch in the stalk like Jason mentioned doing, and then repurpose that switch hole in the dash. Since I have this wired up already, it required only a low level of effort to just get it hooked up and working.

Otis, why haven't I seen your bus yet in person?

This is my completely NOS setup on Globus. Which has something quite unusual.
Anyone?

You are able to use a bumper impact strip.

Globusoverland Thu Sep 29, 2016 8:05 am

Bingo. (I knew you would know it! )

notchboy Thu Sep 29, 2016 8:10 am

Only because I cant

I was going to alter mine. Can you please take a pic of how the inside surface of your override looks?

Globusoverland Thu Sep 29, 2016 12:17 pm

I made a modification myself. For me it was important to keep the strip installed as well. :!:
With a dremel I was able to cut out the exact shape. It is a really tight fit; just as if it was Original. 8)

You dirty dawg! Thats awsome 8)

Well now I know I can do it. Sweet, now I can take off the black duct tape I put on

Did you get it all working and squirting? I was only able to get one to squirt. I bought some other pumps and might go with one pump per squirter like modern cars do.

Globusoverland Fri Sep 30, 2016 2:08 am

One pump per nozzle? Not necessary. I think one nozzle is blocked. The pump is so powerful that it could also handle 4 nozzles!
Besides that, if you want to run each nozzle to a pump, it is also quite a hassle to have the electrics adjusted I guess.
So my advise: make sure you have got a good working pump. It saves you a lot of trouble and time...(and the system stays original! )
