| A buddy helped me dissassemble my 1641 out of my steet Dune Buggie.I bought it a year ago and the guy said it was rebuilt. When we dissassembled it looks like the top end is newer. We found that one rod berring is spun. The mains and the case look ok.I would like some suggestions on maching of the crank if possible and rods should i buy all new parts for bottom end? |

| If it's a GOOD German forging, I would have no issue at all using a crank that's .010/010 or even .020/.020 for that application. As long as the sizing/finish is done properly by the machinist, it will serve you well.Micro-polish is a good idea too. |

I agree. no need to turn the crank if it looks good like you say and is in proper spec.
Make sure the crank and your measuring tool are the same temp when you measure.
Stock rebuilt VW rods are cheap and strong.
Maybe the first builder made a mistake ???? |
