Do IDA's make more horsepower, all else equal? How would 48 IDA's compare to 48 IDF's and/or 48 DRLA's, assuming similar venturis and similar/proper jetting for a relatively hot 2332cc street engine? |

People put IDAs on anything from 1600s to monsters. Beyond a certain point, the "cool effect" dominates the reason why. It takes a good sized engine to NEED IDAs.. and in my opinion, when you need to exceed a 42mm venturi, they start to be necessary. But they come with 37 vents, generally, and can be tuned on moderate engines too because of it.
Whether YOU need them based on power depends on your engine's cam and heads, and your intentions, and what's most important to you. |

I have considered IDA's for my 2187. I think most get them for the cool factor and funtion second. |

i don't have alot of experience in this but here's my .02. the ida's were designed for racing and the idf was designed for street. you can make the ida's work for street with a little modification. on my motor the ida's made 2 more hp than the idf's. but the idf's were alot smoother and easier to drive( my car was street only). that being said, i ran the ida's. maybe i'm a little different, but when i build a hot street motor i don't want it to drive like a honda. i want the old school hot rod feel. i don't mind the quirky carbs, rougher transitions and such. it adds to the feel of the experience. the drla's i've never had so i can't offer any experience with them. |

the 48 DRLAs put out like 52 IDFs, they are badass, and run very well, you wanna go, just punch it, and away you've gone. |

hey mark, how bout answering the question that was posted. the man was wanting to know if ida's make more power. i realize that you are the carb guy, and have forgotten more than i'll ever know on the subject, but with all your experience you have nothing more to offer than COOL FACTOR?
the reasons i ran ida's were not cool factor. i didn't want brownie points for running them. i didn't tell everybody i met that i have IDA'S. i simply liked the way the car drove better with them on.
now cool factor could be chrome engine tin, graphic paint jobs, chrome/custom wheels, lowered suspension, altered interiors, all kinds of things fall into the cool factor catagorey. how bout roof racks on cars that have never been used? |

I think I did answer the question.. as I said... they shine when you need flow beyond a vent size of 42mm on our engines, for the most part.
Why anyone would want to sacrifice tractability and proper fuel delivery is beyond me. If you say it's just better then I have to just believe that you believe that.. sounds like cool factor to me. |
