what do you think about Dave?

hazetguy Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:01 pm

i think he should have a healthier diet.

The Sage Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:01 pm

I think he's bad for the VW economy. He'd never allow you to spend the money you spend on your project...

clay ford Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:13 pm

EZ Gruv Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:16 pm

notchback Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:21 pm

Icy will be all over this thread like rats on cheetos.

I like him, his radio show makes me feel so much better about what little debt I carry. Some people really need to hear his common sense information as I guess it's not something everybody has or learned in life.

iowegian Mon Dec 15, 2008 5:46 pm

I think he is "Born Again", isn't he?
That has to make him perfect.

So what exactly does that make you then?

Grandpa Elephant Seal? :P

I want to see a Dave and Suze Orman cage match... no holds barred to the death!

I'd pay to see that, but my money would be on Orman.

Exactly, it is shocking how many people are financially clueless. It's always something stupid like:

Quote: "Dear Dave, I make $250,000 a year and I have $80,000 in credit card debt. I want to take out a second mortgage to pay for a vacation with my wife. Should I do it?"

Now there is a title I can roll with.

i like what he has to say. i do believe credit is a tool and should be used wisely. but, you have to be able to handle that tool. like a circular saw. you could cut your arm off, that doesnt mean circular saws are bad.

mpribanic Mon Dec 15, 2008 7:09 pm

I try to catch him most afternoons. Although I'm Catholic, I don't listen to him for his "Christian" views. I do listen to him because he truly tries to help others better their lives. Some people make very little money & others make tons of money. Both are capable of making the same mistakes & poor financial decisions. I don't necessarily agree with everything he says, but he has helped thousands of people get out of debt.

I do think he is unrealistic in regards to carrying a "0" FICO score. All in all he makes for good listening and financial advice.

vwracerdave Mon Dec 15, 2008 7:13 pm

Dave is way too radical telling people to drive a junk car, live in a tent, and eat bologna sandwiches without mustard. If you follow about 20%-25% of his advise, you'll be fine.

If I ever get a spare nickel I will...

I have read his book and listened to his "Financial Peace" CD's... all great stuff but...

coad Mon Dec 15, 2008 8:00 pm

The genius of his show is that there are basically only about 20 questions people ask, but he manages to keep it entertaining. Not easy to do 5 days a week 52 weeks a year.

EverettB Mon Dec 15, 2008 8:14 pm

I've listened to it a lot while driving my Bus, one of the few AM shows around here.

It is pretty repetitive but still entertaining.

I have heard a lot of what Jen described, people making what I consider a ton of money and they have more debt than my yearly salary. Damn, that is crazy... but it's all relative. Now let me go look at my back yard with cars that could almost pay off my house. LOL

My mom talked me into going to one of his presentations a few years back and I think his model of debt free living is one that everybody should aspire to but it's not for everyone. Smart guy however. That being said I found it kind of ironic that the end message was that you can't get out of debt unless you buy the patented Ramsey deluxe CD set with accompanying workbook vol 1-99. And you can't get out of the vicious consumer credit cycle without the Ramsey duffel bag, fanny pack, and velour seat covers. Also no debt free life is complete without the Ramsey deluxe sauna- don't let debt make you sweat, the Ramsey sauna is on the job! Only 43 monthly payments to get you on track to financial freedom. I'm exaggerating some but no joke people could not get their credit cards out fast enough to buy whatever kind of junk this guy was peddling.
