Ever see those fang roof pieces for sale? I've always thought about that plus a sunroof, instead of a luggage wrack...

I think they call them receding hairline tops.

They called it "Dachspoiler" (roof spoiler)

Funny! I think of them as 'fangs', too. ;)

Here's an odd one that surfaced recently, from Italy (excuse the cross-link)

It really is amazing the variety of tasks, and the serious mechanical demands, that were made on these things, and they had such a wee little motor, relatively flexible chassis, etc. For the same tasks here we use gargantuan trucks with 5X the horsepower, etc.

Pretty cool rigs.

silverbulletuk Mon Dec 15, 2014 10:10 am

I know an older guy here in the UK who had a HIAB-equipped Pritschenwagen years ago. He thinks that it was too much for the flexy chassis too, because it grew cracks from where the crane mast went through the load deck and eventually broke its back

Widebody single cab with high tilt. Just imagine the wind resistance.

Anyone know anything about these low dropsides? :?

WedgeAntillies Mon Dec 15, 2014 2:34 pm

They just look like a custom DIY project. Can't say they appeal to me though. :-&

I looked though all the pages and couldn't find a Type 3 that was made into a Hearse. Surely there must be one somewhere! Think black with those chrome Landau things on the side.
Ahhh... Here's one:

But surely they must have been common in Europe.

silverbulletuk Tue Dec 16, 2014 2:12 am

Use the search engine of your choice with the terms VW T3 "Leichenwagen" or "Bestattungsfahrzeug"

Surprisingly rare, it would seem.

Zebedee Fri Dec 26, 2014 10:03 am

Hearse.

Tristar Eric Fri Dec 26, 2014 10:54 am

WOW! that side window is huge!

Notice the single cab type lower door.
