The wedding is this coming Saturday.

I plan on putting a piece of plywood in the bed when we set it up as the bar so that the galvanized buckets full of ice and beer don't leave dents in the bed slats. Otherwise, no bedliner.... they trap moisture.

Just ordered a 60' string of battery-operated twinkle lights for the tilt. Should make for a unique bar.

WE had a double cab back in late sixtys or early 70s fond memoies driving around w a chainsaw on back floor...stopping by the side of the road to cut up downed trees and putting in back.....Its a truck....keep it or pass it on....they don=t make them like that anymore....everybody has a double cab these days but nobody has a old vw double cab...out of all my memories of old busses and experances w them ,over 30 busses in all thats one of the best....volkybus bill in Vermont....save it

Ahhhh GREAT thread revival :)

This truck is The Real Deal. The nicest-shutting doors of any VW I encountered in two laps of the country last year, a peppy little single port 1600, and cabin controls that are smooth and precise, just like VW intended.

Plus, it seats six for pizza and beer.

No, fortunately that area was solid on my truck. If you need to replace yours, here's one suggestion. Although this is a single cab rather than a crew cab, he did a lot of metal replacement work and is probably as good a source as any on metal sources:

I also see that Autocraft Engineering sells floor sections for regular buses and those may be adaptable to the crew cab.

I am always amazed and proud of the guys who can see the light and stay driven regardless of the yeas passed, to finish a project.
The double is great looking. Having speed finish my 68 in 8 months this year, it shows. And with your efforts and attention to detail, it most definitely shows.
Great job.

As for a couple things mentioned in the thread, I am interested in some insight.
The middle seat pedestal cover? I could use some info on this as I’d love to have one in my truck.
Also the weatherstripping for the cargo door, where it goes into the body of the bus instead of the door? I’m not familiar with that, but am curious what was used here.

You are correct, the 3rd door seal was actually 2 parts; the full seal that mounts around the perimeter of the door, and a single straight strip along the bottom that mounts to the body. I have never actually seen one of those strait pieces on a crew cab but read somewhere that you could make one by trimming a split truck door seal. I'd suggest that it is not mission-critical because most folks don't have one. With all the other noises my bus makes I have certainly never noticed any wind noise and have not seen any water infiltration along the lower edge of the door.

The covering for the middle seat is the same as for buses with the bulkhead, but I've never managed to find one. I have seen two original ones: one in my '73 Wild Westerner, and one with the Mexican single cab.

I'd love to have one for the RHD double cab, but I know I will never find that, being mirror image and all.
