Wow...you have taken attention to detail to the limit with that one. That car would be hard to top... defenetly no scrimping. That is quite a piece of art... I hope to see in person someday. Stunning  ! |

I have two questions for you Chris that you may have already answered, but to much to read for me.
1. Would this be the fourth go around for the car, as it was brown when done the first time?
2. What do you do (or have done) for a living?
For all of your response and time put forth to the people that have asked questions while following along makes me think your a hell of a guy and someone I would like to meet one day. I have followed along since The cover shot of Right Stuff when I was like 12 or 13.

Thank you for your questions. The chronology of Rodbuster
1. I first had the car as my daily driver and was a puky beige light tan. I drove it for quite few years and eventually sold it. I bought it back a few years and restored it to its original conditions and continued to drive it. This was the first time.
2. We got the show bug and decided to paint it with brown tones and graphics, "Browns Ghia". We actually drove the car alot in this mode. We eventually removed the pan and did a chassis cleanup then the disease got bad.
3. We decided after a few years we need a make over. We then changed it to "Crystal Blue Perusasion" It had neon graphics and an ultramarine blue metalic. This name stuck until Lane Evans did a cover shoot at El Mirage then it became "Right Stuff Ghia" This is the same mode that Johnnys Speed and Chrome did a poster of the car, I have some still belive it or not. We shot it at my home and with models and VW Trends did this Johnnys for thier magazine cover. Must have printed 100's of thousands. We started showing the car ISCA and did well winning over muscle cars and other water pumpers.
4. We did the next make over to go after the ISCA Champion ship. This was RODBUSTER prior to the current make over. We did well that year winning the Pacific Division and winning the best custom car in the USA. We retired it after the Grand Finallie. We did win that year by only showing 7 shows, reallys urinated ISCA off, the rules changed after that.
5. The current version was done for Blackie for his 50th and hopefully find a mesuem that would like Rodbuster.
What I do?
Interesting quesion. I have been a practicing architect since 1977. I sold my practice 5 years ago and now I am facilities consultant for Colleges as well as mentor the firm principals. I work about 60 to 70 hours per month. Web site is www.addington.net if you want to see the kind of work we do besides hot rods. I spend the balance of my time in my hot rod shop. I build/restore about 1 to 3 cars per year. We can do soup to nuts and do not build for anyone. We do a car and decide to sell it or not when we get done as well as work on my projects.

Thank you for your response. I know you said you would not be posting any more photos, but I do have a request if possible. Could you lower the ride hight (I see its all adjustable) to show us all what the car looks like really low? And if Hot VW's does indeed do another feature on the car, keep it low for the shoot!!!
Thanks again!!
Jason
i love the car by the way. |

I recently bought a 67 ghia, sight unseen from Bakersfield. I will be moving to Bakersfield in a couple weeks, as I just retired from the Navy. I was hoping that once there, I may be able to have a peek at the car if at all possible. That is, if you are located in Bakersfield or somewhat near. Thank you for all the work you have done and continue to do for the VW industry. |

Thank you. I visited your photos and you have done some nice work also. I did take the car to Sweden back quite a few years ago. Talk to the pomoters if they are interested in bringing the Rodbuster over there. I have shipped it before

Just linked to this thread from another site and WOW! I see it's been awhile since someone has posted, but I know there are folks reading..........
A very inspirational thread. Gave me some ideas and renewed motivation for attacking some of the engineering aspects of my new Volksrod project. |

Hi
Thanks for the post. We put Rodbuster back in its air conditioning room upon bringing it back home. I have no immediate plans to bring it out for awhile. I did get visitors from time to time which is good so I can check on the room conditions and car condition. My last look it was normal conditions.
I did indicate that I would be taking the engine down and checking everything but I have not had any time with the current projects that I have going. I just finished redoing our 34 Vicky and have a 33 roadster under construction. We are repainting Bette's 62 356 B that was overlooked for years. The mechanicals where great shape but the paint and body was in dire need. We took it down to bare metal removing allot of filler and even replaced the front quarter with a replacement 1/4. We should be painting it next week and take about 2 weeks to put it back to together. I have two other projects in line before I will even consider working on RB, I have 40 Ford Truck that I want to drop a 345 HP 350 roller engine in and am building a 53 356 outlay with a 82 SC running gear. Besides that we have RB on the agenda in the next year or so. Stay tuned.

I cannot post 356 items on Samba I thought, let me know if they will allow it. We will of course do a photo follow. We have to cut the frame and shortent it as well as major surgury everywhere on that project.
