I Wikied Volga---the first car was released Oct 10, 1956.
That bug has some time to account for!!!!!

And if those chassis parts came from an M-21 Volga--they are apparently quite collectable-cited in Wiki as the rarest of Volgas!

It honestly comes down to, it's less of a restoration and more of a recreation of a VW38 using some original parts.

Your words are the reason why we were thinking to share the informations of restauration here in this forum or not.
Björn, just ignore him. For every one like him, there are 10 of us that support Christian's efforts 100%. He's doing the right thing. Keep going.

Not as collectables as a pre-58 beetle - here, in Romania Volgas in decent condition show up for sale from time to time, with prices starting 1000Eu up to 4000 Euros... So that chassis does'n worth much :)

Thank you Undis for keeping this topic up to date. I don't think I'm alone in saying this is easily the most interesting thread on thesamba right now and will probably be for some time to come.

Back in February I certainly had no idea how the line of events would progress. This has been a wild ride.

Aside from Arunas discovering and rescuing this car, the most important event in my opinion is that it ended up in Christian’s hands. I cannot wait to see how this all is going to come together, what original parts are going to be used, what fabricated and what kind of obstacles are going to be encountered along the way.

I really don’t care about people saying that this not a restoration. Unfortunately this is all we have to play with. And it’s no so bad actually. There are original drawings and archive materials available. There is the VW38 convertible at the VW museum which is a fantastic reference and will be used extensively for that purpose. And of course the surviving metal plus the chassis and other original parts that can and will be sourced for this project.

I’m really looking forward to seeing this car again at HO in June!

I'd say there are more like 30 supporters to every one recreation troll.

Please just ignore the trolls. We are behind you 100%.

Hey, I know where I've always stood on this issue, and events are playing out exactly as I dreamed they would! I'm only disappointed that my plans to go to Germany this summer have been dashed. BUT I WILL BE THERE TO SEE THE CAR COMPLETED.

Didn't the Nazis occupy Lithuania from '41-'45?

What are the chances this car's location wasn't a product of pillaging, but brought to Lithuania by a Nazi officer during the war?

Ours is better. He may be not so good looking now, but has many more friends. Better looking friends too, I hope.

This guy is Heinrich George, a famous german actor in the 20ies/30ies and 40ies. He played in 1927 in Fritz Lang's Metropolis. And he's the father of the now famous german actor Götz George. (at least in Germany he's famous..)

Really looking forward to seeing the next update Christian. Clearly bringing the car back is an emense project but I bet you're grinning from ear to ear everytime you look at it. I know I would be!

Until an earlier car surfaces, you have the Ultimate Beetle.

Please keep us informed of your progress on both the rebuild and which car you believe this to be.

BTW - have any attempts been made yet to track the cars recent and longer term history? It would be fantastic to find out when the Volga conversion took place and whether you could find some photos of it in years gone past. I'm really looking forward to reading about how it was found and the story before that.

Well as long as were naming people... the very tall couple in the back (man holding cigarette dangerously close to that car) is Dr Bodo Lafferentz... leader of the KDF Movement.... his wife.. standing next to him is Verena Wagner... Grand Daughter of Richard Wagner the famous composer.
