Hey everyone.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of some short manifolds for Webers that will clear a Doghouse shroud. Why? The rear bumper cage for my Baja passes VERY close over the tops of my air cleaners. It makes it difficult to sync the carbs with the bumper installed.
I've seen really short ones for Type 3 engines, but I don't know if they would work on my Type 1 engine.

| The type 3 intakes should be fine, you will need longer down links for your linkage though |

See there ya go again recommending a quality part. These guys want their parts made by a 3 dollar a day Chinese worker. They want cheap at any cost. |

| As you can see, I do have numerous Gene Berg parts on my engine. $150 seems a bit steep for a pair manifolds in my opinion. |

There are alot of folks running 48mm manifolds with 36's and 40's.
That is what you get with almost anybody else selling manifolds... Including the Type III style.
Some have said it actually helps with the effects of reversion in the intake system. |

With Berg IDF intake manifolds there is very little clearance between the fuel enrichment block off plate and the fan shroud. You may or may not need to manipulate the fan shroud with a hammer to fit. You may also need to offset the air cleaners to clear the fan shroud. The fit will vary depending on the angle of the intake manifold seating surface on the heads.
Berg IDF intake manifold do have actual 40 mm diameter inlets to mate with the carbs.

| Might be easier to modify the rear bumper cage for more clearance. |

| I have the exact same problem on my baja. I'm going to buy 2 3/4" filter elements next time instead of the 3 1/4" like we both currently have. |

The Berg intake manifolds sit somewhere between 1" and 1.5" lower than most other intake manifolds. You can fit a 3-1/4" tall x 4-1/2" wide x 7" long K&N air filter inside a Beetle Sedan engine compartment and still close the lid.

| You will be plesently supprised how good the type 3 manifolds work one a type 1 with doghouse. I use CB's . I am in the process of casting one like the type 3 but it will flow much better and you will be able to make the ports as big as you want. |
