I'm basically going off of a split bus thread and it is awesome :D . Thought I would see if you all want to get one started for our bugs (58' to 67'). It's awesome to see all the great bugs still out there in hiding. 8)

oregon has a lot of bugs

83_WabbitGTI Mon Mar 23, 2009 1:45 pm

Yup they do.

Could you explain a little more on what your trying to do here? I'm a little lost.

The Bus thread, to get the idea:
http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=164642

Basically it's a running log of any "new" Beetles found in people's yards, junkyards, and so on.

Nice! I like it!

I could write about 4 pages from the ones around here. I live too close to hippyville. LOL

Nice. Please start writing :D And pics would be great.
I don't really even look anymore. The last 2 I bought later got sold, before I even did much to them. Nice finds, but, I can only afford/complete one. And one takes me forever

Something about a old vw in a field or a barn is just awesome. Me and my brother used to go bug hunting in nm in the good old days (hell its been 5 years since ive lived in nm). We had some great finds, just north of ruidoso, nm we found 3 old bugs and the owner gave them to us for free and all had titles, a 61' rag, all og but rusty 62', and a 67' sunroof also og but the heater channels where gone. The only one that he still has is the 67' (for the wife). We also found in belen, nm a 60' semaphore bug and picked it up for 250, it was hit in the front pretty bad, but had all og paint and was complete. We had also picked up a 66' that had been pretty thourghly hacked. All these bugs and only the 67' left. My brother left nm for phoenix, and sold all but the 67' while I was deployed in iraq. He basically got out of vw's. Its sad, we now obviosly wish he had not sold them all but he couldn't take them with him and I was in no position to take any, he still has the 67' at a friends in nm, and there really pressuring him to get it moved.

its kind of funny really i lived in my house for close to 10 years and just found it 6 months ago and it lived right up the street like 3 blocks

kjbtsi Mon Mar 23, 2009 3:52 pm

Ya!!! Thats what I'm talking about. I only wish I ha d some pics of the finds we've had, looks like I gotta do some more hunting.

rustfree1967bug Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:59 pm

Yeah I think the best finds are close to home. Here's my latest score http://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewtopic.php?t=348388 It was just under 20 miles from home

kjbtsi Mon Mar 23, 2009 5:06 pm

Nice that 61' is a hell of a score.

rustfree1967bug Mon Mar 23, 2009 5:29 pm

Yeah I got a great deal. The only reason I got most of the extra parts in the boxes is because when he showed me the car before I bought it there was a pair of taillights in the back. When we got the car home I was looking thru it and didn't see the lights, so when we went back to get the other body I asked about the lights and he said he put them in a box. And just kept bringing more and more boxes out of the garage. I even got the steering column, steering wheel and a good horn ring for the '61. I want to build a baja out of the '71 body and either sell the '61 or keep it for a project someday. It is rustier than it looks but in better shape than a Minnesota car

got it home and cleaned it up

still under $1700.00 invested and 22,000 miles so far on the OG engine.

Here's mine. Was sitting for about 10 years. Picked her up for a cool $1000.00

On with the pics. (better camera this time...but not my really good one)

30,000 ORIGINAL!!

Semi hacked wires...not bad.

Treasure Trove of old Receipts!

Wait... Could that yellow thing be.....hmmmm... YES IT IS!! It's the Uranium Pew-36 Explosive Space modulator!!
Looks like you could ignite the shuttle with that thing!!

I think this is from a drag car..or large 4x4...LOL

Needs clean up in that area.... And to remove those pesky screws.... :?

And last summer:

She even looks better now, has a really nice roof rack.

83_WabbitGTI Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:09 am

And a few sitting in a field in Grants Pass Oregon... What a shame. Few good parts left, but not much.

83_WabbitGTI Tue Mar 24, 2009 6:13 am

Another one our club president picked up. I guess he was actually supposed to get this car like 10 years ago, and lost track of it.

Wow has no one been finding 58-67 bugs lately, not a post for almost 6 months. Come on guys lets post them up. I am now part of an aircooled club here in j-ville, so we should have more hunting stories soon.

6Kabrio7 Mon Aug 24, 2009 9:23 pm

thats a really nice 65 wabbit gti...i see bugs constantly but most are fat chicks and supers. i've seen a couple 67s recently driving home from work and i saw a 66 that was stock and blue like my 67 with a fog light on the front. it was the 66 twin of my 67 :)
