Yeah...but that's on stock meat. I was wondering about these fatties. I can see from your avatar that maybe you mean you're using stock pressures on fatties as well? |

I saw this at a the Michigan Fall Bug Run. Check out those rear tires! They were made by Goodyear who knows when. I didn't find any tread name on them, and the size was very worn down. Looked like 9.15-15. They were pretty big. Cool old cube knob tread pattern!

I think they were retreads. If you looked close at them you could see the cap on em. I fell in love with that thing by the way but it wasnt for sale :( |

If I build a rail, I'm going to make one of those death traps. |

I'm a Samba regular, just not on this thread. My newest toy has the B.F. Goodrich All Terrain TAs that seem to get favor on here (I read the first 2-3 pages of this thread). Forgive me for not plowing past page 3, but what kinda pressures should I generally be running on these at the front and rear? 235/75-15
And...they rub on the body (not fenders) in front when I attempt anything close to full lock. Is that to be expected and tolerated, or is there a fix like spacing them out farther...smaller tires... ??? |

My fix would be to lift it or widen the beam. Or switch the front fiberglass to a bug eye kit. Your tire rubbing is why I don't like that kit |

Pretty sure it's rubbing on the body, not the kit. |

oh, well then yea you can buy spacers. But the proper fix is to take a hammer to the wells to make room for when you're turning. |

National XT Commando's. Hmm... Interesting. This is the 4th company I know of to produce tires similar to the original Gates tires. Funny, this is the only reproduction that I have seen which uses the XT Commando name. Gates must have sold the name to them, or it was made under license or something.

So, I'm looking at getting some Sand Viper I desert explorer tires. I found some used ones at a great price, are they worth getting for the dunes? For a baja, not rail.
These kinds:

The Sand Vipers are heavy and don't flex much. There is a guy on the Samba that tried using them on a beach in Mexico with his long wheel base buggy and just ended up getting stuck with them. Even with airing them down to almost nothing there was no side wall flex.
The ones Sand Tires Unlimited sell are a much better tire for the purpose, yes they are more expensive and worth it. |
