Ok I searched dozens of thread here and in the bug section but couldn't come up with what I needed.
I can see and get the idle mix screw on the passenger side carb but the screw on the drivers side is mostly hidden by the fan housing.
How do I get to that idle mix screw on the drivers side? Or do I just need to buck up and do the best I can. These carb have been adjusted before... how did they do it? |

Take the filter off, and use a long handled screwdriver  |

Yup, that's what I used, a loooong skinny shank screwdriver, like a 12 incher. Never had to take off the air filters on my Ghia though. |

Go to the hardware store and get a drywall dimpler tool (simple one, with a bit pressed into a centering collar), and get a flat head bit (shorty, like the phillips bit), and the slot not being the style that is wider than the hex portion). Take them home and drive the phillips out backward with a vise. Then drive the slotted one in roughly flush or a little less. It'll help you center on the screw a lot easier.
:D
My daughter wanted you to see those faces. |

Taking the filter assembly off was the only way that I could even see the screw. Or at least see how tough it was going to be to get to.
I finally found my really long slot screwdriver. I was able to get a very slight, maybe 1/8th turn on the screw to turn it out. The engine is running pretty lean and dying everytime I came to a stop. I didn't get to road test my adjustments today but will give it a run this weekend.
I may have try that drywall dimpler. That's a slick idea. I had to look up what exactly a drywall dimpler was.
Thanks guys! |

What I left out was that you need one of those bit style screwdrivers to put it in. Works great. I can work blind with that and get to it.
