man, that thing is less rusty than my land-based 66 combi :shock: . I guess FL weather and hippy neglect from the previous owners are worse than being a shipwreck for 35 years :lol:
hope to see it on the road soon, hell, i'd drive over there just to see that thing move under it's own power. :D
good luck...
PS-you may want to dry it out :wink: |

The winter and spring did definitely not go as planed this year (has it ever?). But the Samba is first in line, and for the moment I hope to be able to start on it in July as I have some vacation-time to kill.
And I will post pictures as soon as something happens.

To the guys that think that recovery was excessively expensive;
That's a standard lorry fitted with a standard hydraulic crane, and from work experience in Finland these kind of jobs usually don't cost much, a guy with a bigger crane than that one here in Pietarsaari charges 50€ to lower sailing boats into the water in the harbour.
As for shutting down a main road, that probably didn't happen, it looks like they just put out some traffic cones around the legs of the truck so that people won't drive into them.
The most expensive thing with this recovery would be renting the divers, and who knows, maybe they are amateur divers who don't dive professionally, here in Finland you can usually get them to do non-dangerous dive jobs for a couple 24-packs of lager. :) |

Morten Lund Any updates on this little beauty or updated photos? Also is the oil method helping preserve it now that it's outside? I've read about WaxOyl or similar products and never tried them but sounds interesting.
Stuggi, I got hooked on orange one fall as I saw an orange car surrounded by pumpkins around Halloween and suddenly I fell in love with orange.
This orange beats all :wink:
BTW motor-head gal here :wink:

I will post pictures later, I haven't had time yet - all my time the last three weeks have gone to get the car started before this SCC 2010 meeting. The body is still untouched. What is done is to put in a new gearbox and motor, fix the breakes, clutch, accelerator and handbreake. Grease the original front wheel bearings and connect a fully charged battery. |

Wow! I never knew this would generate over 600 views in under 4 days.. I hope it's OK that I posted the video on YouTube Morten. Btw, I cried a little when I saw the picture of the bus right before it was dumped.. was it in your family at the time? Why was it dumped? |
