I'm getting ready to mount my MasterLube pre-lubber and after sitting for almost 25 years, the new gauge is leaking glycerin.
It's an 1/8" NPT rear mount filled gauge, and I want to know for a VW, what would be the "normal" max oil pressure I should see?
2276. I have a new full flow 26mm oil pump, without the pressure feed drilled out, just the suction side drilled. I bought the CB 1230 pressure relief kit as I was told here that it's the most reliable for consistent spring pressures. I have a remote filter and EMPI 72 plate oil cooler.
I thought at one time I read here that the pressure relief valves kick in at 50 psi. I can get a 0/60 psi or a 0/100 psi gauge. I would like to use the 0/60, but not sure if I'll hit that or not.
Thanks in advance, Dan |

Depends on the ambient temperature and the weight of oil you use. I have two running engines in cars right now with stock springs, 10W30 oil and at our present temps of 50 - 60*F in the morning one relieves at 63 psi and the other at 65 psi.
Hope that helps. |

Thanks!
This gauge is only for the pre-fill of air pressure over the oil for the pre-lubber. Accuracy is not all that important other than I just need to see my max running pressure later.
How my MasterLube works is like this, I put 2 qts. of oil in the tank and then fill it with air pressure to what I "believe" will be my max running oil pressure. I turn on the key and flip the switch until I see oil pressure on my motor gauge. I release the switch and then start the motor. The tank air pressure will now be a lot lower than the starting of the pre-lube cycle. Once the motor is up and running, the one-way valve in the bottom of the tank will allow the oil circuit pressure to refill the tank with oil until the oil pressure in the motor reaches its max and the tank pressure is equal to that. Now I'm ready to use it again on the next cold start.
Just to be sure, I think I'll get the 0/100 psi gauge and have some fudge room on the top side... :)
Thanks again for the quick reply!

I like it! Let us know how it works. |
