| I measured my crank endplay with the tool from the flywheel side and it read .004. I was relieved! I pulled my flywheel to see just where the oil was coming from and a small black plastic cap fell out from where the cam is... and oil was dribbling out of the hole. I've never even noticed that cap before. On top of this, I pulled on my pulley to feel the endplay again with the flywheel off and it looked like it was moving 1/8" :shock: :shock: How can I fix these issues? |

| My workshop manual says to install the camshaft end plug using sealing compound when you put the case halves back together. Is the fact that the plug fell out a sign of something greater at work that some of you serious engine builders have seen or does the sealing compound just wear out? Never heard of that. |

the endplay is set with the flywheel installed and it will be loose once you remove the flywheel, don't worry...
If your camplug is the newer case style plastic/rubber type, you need to get a new one, then put some sealer on it and drive it in. simple enough... I also recommend (personal preference here) to install a new flywheel seal...

| If it used the 'small plastic cap', which is really rubber coated metal, he may have a Mexican block. If that's the case, it might not have the groove for a std style cam plug and he'll have no choice but to put another rubber one in it. |

| excellent! Thank you very much. Yes its an AS-41 block- just never heard of one of those plugs falling out. There is a knock in the motor... didn't know if it was related. |

I assume by his post it is the rubber plug Sanny wrote: small black plastic cap ... that and I've never seen a grooved plug pop out.. :shock: regardless without splitting the case, the rubber plug is the only way to go if it *was* a grooved plug, and the only choice if it doesn't have a groove at all... and at 3 bucks, it won't break the bank... :wink:

I've not heard of them falling out, but hell anything can happen... I can't imagine a knock would be related unless your thrust bearing for the cam is worn completely out and the cam is rocking back and forth. It would be an irregular knock and really only should happen either at first accelleration, or when the load is first removed from the engine(assuming stock helical cam gears)... At least that'd be my thinking |
