Hey all, im kind of quiet on these forums but i figured i would say Hi and show you what iv'e been up to. I got my 1964 Beetle when i was 14 or so... im now 30. I restored it way back when with my father and then it got sort of put on the backburner due to lack of "coolness" at the time. I got into watercooled stuff and 4x4 offroad stuff. Well now there seems to be a new "younger" cround getting into aircooled stuff and i like what i've been seeing. Reciently i went to a big watercooled show in Ocean City MD with my Rabbit Truck only to discover a small group of Aircooled guys.. i talked to a few of them and became RE OBSCESSED with my beelte. I came home, pulled the cover off, jacked it up, removed wheels and started ordering stuff. Orriginally i was going for "stock" look but now that i have a good head on my shoulders im taking it to the next level. OEM+ ;) I decided to "drop it like its hott" and build up a set of OEM+ style wheels for the rear. Currently i have everything i need to lower the car minus a narrowed adjustable front beam and spindles. I have a 1600ccDP dual carbed motor that i hope to freshen up and replace the blown up 1200 with. Well, enough talk, here are some pics for your viewing pleasure...

Just Pulled the cover off.. all tires (once brand new) are popped and flat!!

Welcome back! I towed my first bug home at 14. But I did it and many others over the years. Lost the fever for some years and got bit 6 years ago again. The obsession never leaves. Good to have ya back!

Did you have those wheels widened or buy em like that? If you had them widened, do you mind me asking what you paid to have it done and how wide they are?

Nice looking car. It doesn't look like it will take too much to get it back on the road.

I widened them myself. I paid $20 for the two 8" wide truck wheels (barrel donors) and $20 for two used beetle smoothies (center donors). I made a jig to hold it all together and welded them, sandblasted and painted all myself. Ordered smooth caps, new cap clips and red stripe porto walls on their way!

now just waiting on porto walls to complete mini project!

hehe.. easy simba! Just waiting for one more thing before i can put them together. My wheels are 8" wide in the rear and the rear tires are 195/50/15

here are some updates.. front tires were a giant pain to mount.. may still go with 135's depending on how it looks when i get my beam and spindles. Car looks stupid now cause its stock height.. but soon it will be cool!

Does anyone know if there is a 6v to 12v kit out there? I want to swap this thing over to 12v.. pretty much i just need new light bulbs, a 12v gen or alt, voltage regulator? annnnnnd?

That bug needs to be dropped bad. I like the idea of deep dish in the rear but with it I like to see meaty tires. Just drop it and get some pics please.
