Man I'll never understand that. Professional tells them (right in front of the customer) that it's worth 15k. The pawn dude turns around and offers the customer 7k AND THEY TAKE IT!.. WTF!
Gotta pay for that crack/meth somehow.....
Sometimes people just don't want to bother and want the quick cash instead of maximum cash.
the pro is quoting the retail price or best price at auction. if the pawn buys it for that price how do they make money. |

absolutely the best part of the show, I have a new freind "oval Les" a real fun guy to hang with, he walks around hunched over and wearing classic farmer overalls with tobacco juice dripping out of the corner of his mouth, his kids all moved and have no interest in the farm so he enjoys me dropping by once in a while and taking interest in his life as well as his stuff, Iv'e only seen inside 1/3 of the buildings so it's like christmas every time I visit, I scored a South Wind heater for a couple hours of feeding the goats and cows, and his wife gave me a basket of fresh eggs to take home!! and yea, he has a cherry oval under a tarp...
So your saying you've put this guy up on the chalkboard!
actually I was having a yard sale that he and his wife came to and he saw my bug and bus and told me he had an old vw at home and invited me over, Iv'e been there a half dozen times and still haven't asked him if he wants to sell it, he's just fun to visit, and yea someday I'll ask... |

Ditto. Like I said, some things are worth more than money and you can't take it with you. |

One of the hoarders on last nights show said it. I guess i should have put it in quotation marks.
I also like the way he flips a coin to make a deal. I'll have to try that at the next swap meet. |

Something to keep in mind if you think these old people (hoarders) are being taken advantage of by these guys... they might have paid little or nothing for what they are selling, and might even feel they are the ones taking advantage. The old guy (in the first episode) who sold the saddle, etc., could spend the rest of his natural life trying to organize/catagorize/inventory just that one barn they were in, and he'd be long gone before getting to the bottom of it. |

I was thinking something similar. I would bet that much of what these people have was bought at farm auctions, where you could buy piles of stuff for a few dollars. You haul it home, sort out the scrap metal, and store the rest. The scrap metal brings a few bucks for beer.
Yes, I am speaking from experience. |

I got my Westy from a guy that bought it as part of a storage unit auction. He bought the entire contents of the unit and wanted the furniture (antique) and other stuff within. He wanted nothing to do with the Westy however. $2,500 later it was mine. |

I've been thinking about getting into this storage unit auction thing. My luck it would be a bunch of paper files or something. |

those storage auctions are silly, the same folks that wont but something cheap on say craigslist will pay 3 times the amount at "auction"
ive been there, its just silly, the auto auctions out here (like impound lot style) have been stupid for yrs,its actually amazing what these people will pay in an auction environment
i have also been a victim at these auctions........i learned to stay the hell away from them |

TIME= MONEY
PEOPLE,MONEY,THINGS..........Invest too much time in one, the others suffer.
I try to find the right person for ,the right thing ,for the right price at the right time.
Sometimes that means selling for less to the person I feel is going to better take care of it. |

I got my bus from an older man that bought it for $50- $100 at an auction in the 80s. He asked me a few times if $200 was too much.  he also included the bay window rear seats. 8)
I still go and help the guy out any time he calls me. He has a bunch of cars and I help him move them around and take pictures for him to help him sell stuff.

This is great if it's your hobby, if you're trying to live on it, you couldn't operate this way or you'd be living in a van, down by the river! |

I want to know who comes up with the "value" that they use in their prices. Any body can say it's worth yada yada yada. Have they sold these things? Is that where they get their value? Where's the list?
I'll bet they use a different "value" list for the IRS. |
