We have all seen the short short Vw buses with the center double door section removed. Doe's anyone have any real photos of a short bus with only one half of the door section removed? That is one door. A not too short bus. :D

The Fireplace Bus comes to mind or was it a full shorty?

oldbug's school bus was like that

what's the benefit or draw from shortening a bus? Is a normal bus too long to drive around the city? Too big for urban living? Or just the need to have a clown car?

Most of them are probably made from two wrecked buses. I like the proportions on those. I wonder how drivable they are?

We had a semi-short bus that someone built for trail running: it would not high center on rocks and bumps. The owner did the cutting, welding, and body work just to learn how. He gave it to us in exchange for food and lodging, and then hung around long enough to teach me how to set valves. It drove fine, except that it had a passenger door that needed adjustment and kept falling open. A driver leaned over to close that door on the highway one day and turned the steering wheel inadvertently. The bus rolled several times down the road and was eventually junked.

Hate to break it to you, but to most people a REGULAR bus is a clown car.

While this is true, having a short bus only perpetuates the idiocracy of most people.

Yeah Pyro, it sure did. I took that pic at Bulli Brigade in the late 90's(?)

pyrOman Wed Jan 27, 2010 9:47 am

Thought so! I was there myself back then too! :P

Also FWIW, in '97 the then owner did drive it all the way to SoCal for the Classic weekend with a couple of the Tampa Bay area peeps! so it must be a good driver! 8)

I'm not into shorties either but having seen this one up close I can vouch for the detailed finish on it. Very well done. :)

Kris Eagle had a really nice 57 or 58 shortened kombi. It's sad that it was shortened, as it was a nice, straight, dry bus.
