1987 Volkswagen Vanagon / Bus Weekender - $8000 (W. Babylon)

https://newyork.craigslist.org/lgi/cto/d/1987-volkswagen-vanagon-bus/6676367023.html

Wolfsburg Edition Pop top Weekender 4 cyl, 4 speed manual. 175k miles

Great camper van, starts right up and runs well, Sleeps 4, Body is good, no dents - some rust spots -

Pop-top fabric is torn (Either replace or sew in windows)

$8000 Negotiable - Will take highest offer / bid

I went and looked at this Vanagon. Aside from all the electrical and mechanical issues, it was dirty inside. if you want top dollar for your Vanagon, maybe, and i'm just spit-balling here, break out the shop vac and spend an hour getting the sand, dirt, dead bugs, spider webs, and what not out. use cleaner on the windows, tighten down the loose screws, make it look like you care about it...

seriously, expend some effort and maybe it might be rewarded.

Very true. But to be fair, they're not asking top dollar.

that is a very odd statement to make. asking 8k for a Vanagon that the owner could not be bothered to spend 2 hours cleaning up, well, that tells me they have neglected far more than the visible.

to each their own i guess.

Whatever kind of camper you have, put WESTFALIA decals on it because those are really cool. Even if yours has nothing to do with Westfalia, go ahead and advertise it as one.

So you're saying 8k negotiable is top dollar for a fairly solid, running (even poorly), desirable year and color pop top westy weekender?

I completely agree that they should take the time to clean it and sort it out more but there is a reason it's not 2 or 3 x the price. If it were, then I'd be expecting something closer to perfection. 8k (could likely be had for 5-7k) for that model is a "fixer upper" price. In my humble opinion of course, I haven't seen it in person. Even if it's a little overpriced it's in the sane realm. Regards

Body decent interior complete running 2.1 waterboxer with a poptop?

8k is a good deal, not top dollar, IMO- and I've been looking at ads more than I should for a while now.

Not trying to be critical, just sharing my experience.

So, this one looks like a nice stock '87 full camper with low miles but for that ask I'd expect detailed photos of every nook and cranny. By this seller's reasoning my stock '87 Westy with original engine, lower mileage and a few dents must be worth about $20K. Call me.

This well maintained Westfalia is ready for your next camping trip! It has passed the Virginia State Safety inspection on July 9, 2018 without any need for repair or upgrading. Current mileage is 112,800. A new engine was installed by Stohlman Volkswagen in Vienna, VA in May of 1997 when the mileage was at 67,024 (a detailed receipt is available). That puts the mileage on the new engine at 45,776. Service records can be provided. This vehicle has a liquid propane two-burner stove, sink, two-four person table, and ample storage space. Also, the two front seats swivel to the back and an additional table is included. Pop top upper area sleeps two persons and lower interior sleeps another two. A new battery was installed in July of 2018 and a new muffler and tailpipe in September of 2016. Good tread depth remains on tires. The Westfalia has an excellent interior and exterior appearance. •do NOT contact me with unsolicited services or offers

I know, right! It has been reposted on CL at least twice since my last rant about it.
The guy couldn't even be bothered to counter my $40 offer. Seriously, I have to be the only person to make any sort of offer on that rag.

time for a gofundme to make this end.

I could charge $1 admission to a canvas bonfire at Syncro Solstice 2019.

Edit: Dabaron, I think you could really use a canvas for your new tintop.

only if the seller tie-dyes it.

Here is another CL add that keeps reposting every few days. They really couldn't fix the wipers or the canvas sticking out the side?

That drives me crazy! Taking pictures in the showroom with a wiper arm hanging down over the headlights? And for that kind of $, I'd expect the hook-up boxes to all have lids. I am a fan of the awning tripod setup though.

Yes I hear the tripod setup is for hanging a hammock in between the tripods

Typical lazy CL seller. Just opens the front door and takes a picture. If you want your $15k ask, get closer.
