This link has some useful info including how to wire in the intermittent function without modifying the current wiper switch. This is done by using a toggle switch on the dash to switch on intermittent function. :D

I am trying to avoid the toggle switch setup and do it like the factory CE setup without the brown wiper switch. I have a 914 wiper switch (pictured) which also can run a electric washer pump besides the intermittent wiper relay.

Do you have a pic that shows how the electric washer pump is triggered.
It also appears that some of the replacement T1 wiper switches already have provision for the delay feature and the electric washer pump. I wonder if the same holds true for the Type 2's. |

Looking forward to my one off from Scott. He will probably sell the kit. Karl said it could not be done. Wish he could still chime in. |

Replacement wiper switches are NLA and far as I know don't have this. If you look in the pic the lower part of the switch has the copper contact band that is not in the OEM T2 switch. There are a couple of ways to wire it so I will give it a try first with the intermittent relay. Here is a revised wiring diagram showing the wiring.

I put one of CIP's mystery switches in a customers bus last year and it had both the intermittant and squirter contacts, IIRC the squirter was a separate wire from the main harness on the switch. |

Is this the one?
VWC-211-953-519-G
http://www.cip1.ca/ProductDetails.asp?ProductCode=VWC%2D211%2D953%2D519%2DG
I see Bus Depot has one as well but $45. less expensive. Don't know what the shipping costs would be but I need a few things from BD anyway.

Same part # and if the pic is of the actual item, I count at least 5 wires coming out of the unit. |

I tried to order a wiper switch last week from Bus depot and they aren't available for the 77-79.
I should look into the Cipi switch.. |

Hi there, I've got the champagne edition wiper switch and turn signal indicator, but was lacking the wiring harness and the relay.
I was hoping someone could please take a photo of the connections on all ends of the wiring harness, ie: at the Relay, at the Motor and at the switch.
I just need to determine how to adjust my non-intermittent, non-relayed wiper wiring harness to this intermittent, relay functioning system.
Thanks in advance!!!!!!! |

I should give all the intermittent wiper threads a good read. The Magna sitting rotting away in the yard has an intermittent wiper box under the bonnet. it was hidden away in the quarter panel behind the loom and the battery tray. Might be useful.
if I thought I could use it and if it were affordable one of those 50,000 speed truck wiper arms would be nice. I thing Grandpa Pete would know the ones I mean. Not sure if anyone else does. Well, okay not 50,000 but there are a heap of wiper speeds and intermittents. |

Awessssssommmmmeeeee.....
So my van is an bastardized-ish custom... Since I did a 87 Jetta TD motor swap, I decided to upgrade all the main wiring to the Jetta fuse panel.
So i decided to utilize the jetta wiring with the bus switch and with the bus motor.
Connecting the motor to the jetta panel was easy, four wires.
The switch was trickier ... I followed the schematics that joel guy on the aussie vee dubbers site made, but was having wipers on at key ON position.
Had to adjust how the wiring went thru the extra 30amp relay before I got them sorted.
Relay: But I used the VW 99 relay, for variable intermittent wipers. (note: plugged right into the '87 jetta fuse panel that runs my bus)
Wiring: Cross between bus and jetta (bus to motor and switch, jetta to FP)
Switch: Found a porsche 914 wiper switch which had the extra S wire as well as the 53c i think.
I had to extend the wiper switch wires to fit the longer 'stalk' of the bus's steering column. lost one of the little springs in the wiper switch (be careful when opening them up that the springs dont go wizzing everywhere).
So now default position is OFF, 1up is Slow, 2up is Fast; 1down is Intermittent. I can pull up on any position and have Wipe and Wash(power wash pump) also. With the 99 relay, I have variable intermittent, so I bring the switch down to intermittent, it swipes once accross windshield, and I bring the switch back up to OFF position for desired amount of wait time then back to intermittent to set the time delay, from .05-20 seconds on command!
Awesome!... :D... I could do pics, but since it's so mongrel, it's probably not much help to anyone else. Sorry for those who dislike customs... :S |

yeah, I have a 914 switch with all the extra contacts that I am converting to a bus wiper switch with the longer wiring so it fits. Now to just finish it.... |

Joel can be dodgier than me  Although some of his methods for getting things done can be a little uh... eyebrow raising, he has good ideas and implements them so they work.
I still find the wheel of death terrifying but I can't think of a better way of getting a Vss for electronic speedo input  |

I mentioned my intermittent wiper set up (project) in my switch thread, but it seems more appropriate here.
I took some pics of the harness
I understand that the black connector at the end connects to the switch on the column:
The connector in the middle, goes to the wiper motor, and the brown wire to the ground connectors that are welded to the inside of the nose:
As for the loose ends, I know these go to the relay.
My question is, is there an empty position on the relay panel under the fuse panel to mount the intermittent relay? Does anyone have a photo to show the orientation, or the placement of the colored wires on the relay?
Thanks! |

Bleyseng wrote: Ok, here is a pic of a late bay wiper switch and a late 914 switch. The bodies are the same, everything is the same except for the stalk which can be swapped in. The 914 one is on the right.
I'll give it a try..
Did you ever figure out this switch?
I tore my switch out last week. I found that while my switch could physically go into the "intermittent" position, that there was no contact inside to close the circuit.
Yesterday, at a show, I bought a switch which was labeled for a late bus.
Inside, it has the contacts that look to be for the intermittent position. It also has two screw contacts for the electric washer.
Can anyone confirm if Ive bought the right switch?
Also, can anyone tell me what order I've got to place the wires in on the plastic wire holder and plug?

CEII came stock with intermittent wipers...is that stalk brown? |

No, it's not a brown stalk. That's the first thing I looked for. A first, I thought it was a no go. But the top is partially separated from the body of the switch, and I am able to swivel it, and clearly see it has the extra contact. It looks just like the switch that Bleyseng posted on Pg1.
Now, I'm trying to read and find out which color wire goes to which position in the plug end, and which wire to place where for the electric washer. |

Can you take photots of what position each wire goes in at the plug and how you connect the washer pump? |
