When going to the local auto junk yard i found a shifter in the 70-73 vw bug at it looked like a gene berg shifter. knowing that those types of shifters are quite expensive i jumped at the chance of getting it for only $10.99 when i asked how much they wanted for it. but the problem is i don't know if it is real, does anybody even make fake gene berg shifters or can someone make a shifter look like a gene berg one from a cheap china shifter? here are some pics of the shifter i picked up. the shifter is quite heavy so i'm assuming it's good quality therefore real?
base plate was included. :D
oh and by the way, for anyone who has a shifter like this is the t-handle part suppose to spin freely or is there a way to tighten it to keep it from spinning freely. i plan on putting it in my car but was not sure about the whole t-handle spinning.
Thanks for any input and advice

It looks like a real Berg and there are 2 set screws on the handle to lock it in place. |

Thats sucks  Good for you though :D I just miss the days when I was in south florida and would frequent the pick-a-part yard on a weekly basis. Parts were priced the same across the board, cheap !
Now where I'm at if it's a light bulb from a toyota it's 5 bucks and if it's from a BMW it's 50 bucks !
I'm exaggerating but they do ask you what it came out of and the prices are way high for junk !
I miss the good old days .
Nice score on the shifter and the engine !! Hold onto that shifter ,you will be sorry if you sell it to make a quick buck. |

Nice find, good for you! 8)
FYI, you might want to read the instruction manual for your camera and learn how to use it. In every one of your photos, you've focused on the grass/trees/plants in the background, and not on the thing you're trying to photograph... |

To answer your question about 'fake' Berg shifters, I think it's possible. I saw one in the swaps at Sacramento on Memorial Day weekend that was a Berg handle attached to a cheap generic t-handle shifter. The squared shaft gave it away, along with the base. It was priced at $45, but I recognized it for what it was in short order. |
