I have a 1971 Super Beetle.

looking for part # 34...goes between fresh air box and and part #1, left and right. It wraps around the two parts to seal air flow from the box to the car vents.
looking for two of part #43...goes between part #1 and dash vent.
Also looking for a hood air scoop for a 1971 Super Beetle. At higher speeds it would help bring fresh air into the car. If anyone has the part numbers or description, that would be appreciated.
Have been taping the fresh air box ports(left and right) to Part #1 and have been unable to get a good fit from part #1 to the in dash vents. Obviously the extra part makes the difference to line them up together. [/img]

your not the first person to be looking for this.
aluminum flex hose (the spiral stuff like for your motor but the cheaper uninsulated kind) can be used along with a clamp and if your fan works you should get better airflow especially if you find that scoop.

The original piece is four or five layers of thickwool cotton like is used for dampening hifi speakers. it had a push snap like for childrens pants pressed into each corner to hold it together.

it is more thermally insulated but it does leak and the hot air gets blown into part number one anyway so theres no thermal loss issue. if there was any loss it would only be a factor in the summer where it would be welcomed.

66Foot, is there anything under the snapped cloth wrap to cover the holes and get better air flow?

Mine has always had just the cloth material for the Fresh Air Box Dampner .

FYI, Mid America has the padded connector sleeves with the snaps and all the correct size aluminum hoses for this set up at reasonable cost. Just did mine all back to stock and it works great, air everywhere...hint, use a piece of 2" vinyl air hose (any FLOPS sells it) under the snap connector for a nice air tight fit, also helps hold the dash vent ducts in place.

I think the cloth covering over the holes is for a muffler effect to make it quieter like the covers on the heat muf under rear seat. :) maybe

Why are there holes on the pipes that are supposed to transfer air? Also the heater pipes under the rear seat have holes after a certain year. Is it necessary for breathing or ventilation?

Just throwin this out there. Trimmed down pringles can covered by left over automotive carpet, all held in place by zip ties. I know it sounds redneck, but it works.

Thanks Tele68...called Mid America and ordered part #301-974 Power Vent Duct insulation $14.99 (pair).
Will also try the 2" vinyl tube. Right now I have milk jug plastic wrapped and taped around the two pieces...gives a good tight fit, but a pain to undo and work in those areas(left or right side). My fan works great...but if I could find the HOOD AIR SCOOP that wold increase the air flow.

I had one of those hood scoops and it dosen't help as much as you think. It does increase the flow, but it's more for looks.

wow.. the area where the fresh air intake is is almost in a vacuum no wonder they added the fan. now if you had a longer scoop that opened mid way down the hood and everything was sealed up you would be getting some massive airflow

When it's snowing, it never touches to my windshield when I'm driving like 50 mph, there is a pocket of air that prevents the snow to touch the windshield.. :)

Can anyone tell me where to find the rubber flap #23 that goes in the fan housing or how to make one?
I took my air box apart and both flaps are hard and dried out, when i touched one of them it broke apart...

I'm trying to put the dash back together on my 72 super beetle and I'm not sure if I am missing parts. Specifically, air from the trunk comes into the cab around the base of the air box knobs. Is there supposed to be some kind of seal or grommet around the base of the knobs?

In the diagram it shows item 30 which might be some sort of seal but I can't tell for sure.
